Is COVID More Dangerous Than Driving? How Scientists Are Parsing COVID Risks. – Yahoo News

Cameron Byerley, an assistant professor in mathematics education at the University of Georgia, built an online tool called Covid-Taser, allowing people to adjust age, vaccine status and health background to predict the risks of the virus. Her team used estimates from earlier in the pandemic of the proportion of infections that led to bad outcomes. She recalled her 69-year-old mother-in-law being unsure whether to worry earlier in the pandemic after a news program said people her age had a 10 percent risk of dying from an infection. Dr. Byerley suggested her mother-in-law imagine if, once out of every 10 times she used the restroom in a given day, she died. “Oh, 10 percent is terrible,” she recalled...

Bucatini all’Amatriciana Recipe

A Classic Roman Dish - Bucatini all'Amatriciana Like many of you, Meg and I watched the Stanley Tucci special on CNN called Searching for Italy. In the Rome episode, he has lunch at Armando Al Pantheon to enjoy their famous rigatoni all'amatriciana, one of Rome's famous pastas. I made it a little different and call it bucatini all'Amatriciana. Of course I had to run out and buy the ingredients so we could make it at home. Not a lot of ingredients and very simple to prepare and absolutely delicious. Let's look at some of the ingredients. My kids like to say it looks like a straw made out of pasta.  If you lived in Naples, Italy, you would call...

Health experts: Hey, the vaccines were never intended to prevent infections – Hot Air

You spoiled Americans need to reset your expectations when it comes to the COVID vaccines. That’s the message coming from a variety of health authorities interviewed by USA Today this week. They also spoke to some patients who expressed their shock and surprise after testing positive despite being fully vaccinated, boosted, wearing masks religiously, and avoiding crowds. But these same health officials were quick to point out that your chances of requiring hospitalization or dying as a result of contracting COVID are still significantly lower if you’ve received the shots. Even then, however, the odds of the worst outcome hitting you are still a non-zero number. It’s no longer unusual to hear of someone getting COVID-19 even though they’re fully vaccinated and boosted.
