Diabetes risk rises after COVID, massive study finds – Nature.com

People who were hospitalized with COVID-19 are at risk of a diabetes diagnosis.Credit: Bruna Prado/AP/Shutterstock People who get COVID-19 have a greater risk of developing diabetes up to a year later, even after a mild SARS-CoV-2 infection, compared with those who never had the disease, a massive study1 of almost 200,000 people shows. The research, published in The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology earlier this month, is one of a growing number of studies2 showing that COVID-19 can increase a person’s risk of diabetes, months after infection. “When this whole pandemic recedes, we’re going to be left with the legacy of this pandemic — a legacy of chronic disease” for which health-care systems are unprepared, says study co-author Ziyad Al-Aly, chi...

Bucatini all’Amatriciana Recipe

A Classic Roman Dish - Bucatini all'Amatriciana Like many of you, Meg and I watched the Stanley Tucci special on CNN called Searching for Italy. In the Rome episode, he has lunch at Armando Al Pantheon to enjoy their famous rigatoni all'amatriciana, one of Rome's famous pastas. I made it a little different and call it bucatini all'Amatriciana. Of course I had to run out and buy the ingredients so we could make it at home. Not a lot of ingredients and very simple to prepare and absolutely delicious. Let's look at some of the ingredients. Bucatini Bucatini is a pasta that looks a lot like spaghetti but it is thicker and has a whole running down through the strand. My kids like to say it looks like a straw made out of pasta.  If you lived in Naples, Italy, you would call...

Silent majority of Disney employees support Florida law, Disney employee running for Congress says – Fox News

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles! Jose Castillo, a current Walt Disney Company employee who is running for Congress in Florida as a Republican, told Fox News Digital that the "silent majority" of Disney employees support the parental rights law H.B. 1557, despite the loud minority leading Disney to take a stance against the law, which critics have branded the "Don't Say Gay" law. "There is immense pressure to toe the company line," Castillo told Fox News Digital. "However, the reality is that those drawing attention to this issue are in the minority. The Disney cast members who support the parental rights defended by HB 1557 far outnumber those who are protesting against it." Castillo claimed that "Disney and similar corporations listen to the loudest voices in the crowd,"...

Prince Harry looks petulant and rude for skipping Philips memorial – Daily Mail

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be aware that missing the Duke of Edinburgh's memorial service for Prince Philip has made them look 'petulant and rude,' a royal expert has claimed.  Prince Harry, 37 and Meghan Markle, 40, were notable in their absence as the Queen, 95, senior royals, politicians, European royals and friends gathered in Westminster Abbey to pay tribute to Prince Philip.  The couple, who live in Montecito, California with their son Archie, two, and nine-month-old daughter Lilibet, announced in March they would not come to the UK for the memorial. The Duke, 37, is pursuing a legal challenge against the Home Office after being told he would no longer be given the 'same degree' of personal protective security when visiting from the US, despite offering to pay for it himsel...

Study finds ivermectin, the horse drug Joe Rogan championed as a COVID treatment, does nothing to cure the virus – Yahoo Finance

When doctors and scientists scoured for a cure to COVID-19 during the early days of the pandemic, initial studies suggested a number of potential cures that turned out to be bogus. But few dubious solutions have had the staying power of ivermectin, an antiparasitic drug used to treat large farmyard animals. Ivermectin has been promoted as an “alternative” COVID cure by the likes of podcast host Joe Rogan—who has supported the horse deworming drug over COVID vaccines, even using it himself—and doctors have prescribed the treatment to COVID patients. In small doses, ivermectin can be prescribed to treat head lice or other parasites in humans, but the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not approved the drug as a COVID treatment. In the U.S., ivermectin prescriptions soared to 88,000 per ...
