Covid data will not be published over concerns its misrepresented by anti-vaxxers – Glasgow Times

Public Health Scotland will stop publishing data on covid deaths and hospitalisations by vaccination status - over concerns it is misrepresented by anti-vaxx campaigners. The public health watchdog announced the change in policy in its most recent covid statistical report, saying the frequency and content of the data would be reviewed. Instead, officials will focus on publishing more robust and complex vaccine effectiveness data. PHS officials said significant concerns about the data being misused deliberately by anti-vaccination campaigners is behind the move. The report published on Wednesday will be the last weekly publication to include the data on infection rates among the vaccinated and unvaccinated. It also includes hospitalisation and death rates,...

Mosquitoes have a favorite color, and the reason for it is pretty creepy – New York Post

To avoid yellow fever, try not wearing yellow. Some colors may be more attractive to the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which carries the deadly disease, as well as Zika virus, chikungunya and dengue, according to a new study. The findings from University of Washington researchers add depth to our understanding of the pest’s behavior, and more ways to stave off their troublesome — and sometimes deadly — attacks. Their findings aren’t just helpful for those looking to avoid getting eaten up this summer. The study also bears significance for the millions globally who suffer mosquito-borne diseases annually, an estimated 1 million of whom will die from their contagious bite. For most animals, the senses are adapted to find food, fast. However, little was previously ...

Peterborough woman 34, had to have ALL her fingers amputated after kidney stone agony led to sepsis – Daily Mail

A 34-year-old mother needs all of her fingers amputated and could lose her legs after being struck down with sepsis. Sadie Kemp, from Peterborough, was building a toy kitchen with her two-year-old son on Christmas Day when she felt a sharp pain in her kidneys. The mother-of-two was taken to hospital screaming in agony, but doctors only gave her painkillers and said she should come back if it got worse.  By the early hours of Boxing Day Ms Kemp was back, and claimed she was placed in an induced coma for two weeks. Doctors discovered her pain was down to a kidney stone which led to an infection and then triggered sepsis — a life-threatening condition where the body attacks its own tissue. It can also cause blood clots which cut off blood supply to limbs and leave patients needing amputation...

Bucatini all’Amatriciana Recipe

A Classic Roman Dish - Bucatini all'Amatriciana Like many of you, Meg and I watched the Stanley Tucci special on CNN called Searching for Italy. In the Rome episode, he has lunch at Armando Al Pantheon to enjoy their famous rigatoni all'amatriciana, one of Rome's famous pastas. I made it a little different and call it bucatini all'Amatriciana. Of course I had to run out and buy the ingredients so we could make it at home. Not a lot of ingredients and very simple to prepare and absolutely delicious. Let's look at some of the ingredients. Bucatini Bucatini is a pasta that looks a lot like spaghetti but it is thicker and has a whole running down through the strand. My kids like to say it looks like a straw made out of pasta.  If you lived in Naples, Italy, you would call...

Kanye West follows Pete Davidsons new Instagram account – Page Six

Kanye West is going to be keeping up with the Davidson. The Yeezy fashion designer not only followed Pete Davidson’s new Instagram but posted a screenshot of the “Saturday Night Live” comic’s account Wednesday night and captioned it, “FOLLOWED.” Like most of his posts, West deleted the screenshot shortly thereafter. Unsurprisingly, Davidson did not reciprocate the follow and instead is following only his girlfriend, Kim Kardashian, and actor Sebastian Stan. (Not even his bestie John Mulaney?!) The “King of Staten Island” actor, 28, picked a wild time to rejoin the social medium, as the “Flashing Lights” rapper, 44, has been threatening and insulting him on the platform over his relationship with the Skims founder, 41. Davidson hasn’t been on In...
