Pfizer Covid vaccine is less effective in kids 5 to 11, study finds – STAT

Newly emerging data suggest the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid vaccine works substantially less well at preventing infection and hospitalizations in children aged 5 to 11 than it does in those aged 12 to 17 — a finding that is raising questions about whether the companies chose the wrong dose for the younger children. The data, from New York state, show a rapid and substantial decline in protection after vaccination in children in the younger age group, with efficacy against infections dropping off more quickly and dramatically than the declines seen in children aged 12 to 17. The study also found a significant, but less steep, decline in protection against hospitalizations. The findings, compiled by researchers working for the New York State Department of Health, were posted Monday on a preprint ...

Bucatini all’Amatriciana Recipe

A Classic Roman Dish - Bucatini all'Amatriciana Like many of you, Meg and I watched the Stanley Tucci special on CNN called Searching for Italy. In the Rome episode, he has lunch at Armando Al Pantheon to enjoy their famous rigatoni all'amatriciana, one of Rome's famous pastas. I made it a little different and call it bucatini all'Amatriciana. Of course I had to run out and buy the ingredients so we could make it at home. Not a lot of ingredients and very simple to prepare and absolutely delicious. Let's look at some of the ingredients. Bucatini Bucatini is a pasta that looks a lot like spaghetti but it is thicker and has a whole running down through the strand. My kids like to say it looks like a straw made out of pasta.  If you lived in Naples, Italy, you would call...

Aretha Franklins granddaughters Idol audition leads to debate with judges – CNN

Grace Franklin, whose grandmother is the late Aretha Franklin, learned that after she auditioned for the singing competition. The 15-year-old appeared in Sunday's episode of "Idol" and sang the Lauryn Hill version of the Roberta Flack hit "Killing Me Softly," as well as her grandmother's hit "Ain't No Way." "I got to see her all the time. I used to travel with her a lot," the teen said. "I don't think I could fully grasp the fact that she was known worldwide, because to me, she was always just grandma." While Franklin's performance won praise from "Idol" judge Katy Perry, fellow judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie didn't feel she was ready. Bryan voted no to Franklin continuing through to the next round, with Perry voting yes. That left it up to Richie to decide. "Grace Franklin, I lo...

Maksim Chmerkovskiy is still trying to leave Ukraine. The “Dancing With the Stars” alum posted a video to Instagram early Monday in which he told his followers that he was arrested in his home country amid Russia’s invasion and is figuring out how to get out. “[There’s] a lot of fighting everywhere. Streets are crazy. At one point I got arrested. … But all good, promise,” he said in his nearly five-minute video. “That was probably the least traumatizing moment in this whole thing as far as Ukraine is concerned, but for me, it was a reality check.” Chmerkovskiy, 42, said he has “a lot to unpack” emotionally but is not in “a mental state right now to do so.” “I’m just trying to stay focused,” he added.
