Fact check: Viral post makes misleading, inaccurate claims about vaccine manufacturers – USA TODAY

The claim: Pfizer pulled all vaccine applications, Moderna’s CEO sold 90% of his shares and Johnson & Johnson halted vaccine production A widespread rumor circulating online attempts to cast doubt on Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson – the companies that produce the three COVID-19 vaccines authorized in the U.S. “I am triple vaccinated more left than right on the political spectrum. Something is severely off with these Covid vaccines,” reads a Feb. 14 tweet that accumulated more than 37,000 likes within less than a week. “Pfitzer (sic) just pulled all remaining applications in 10 plus countries. Moderna CEO just sold 90% of his shares. Pfitzer (sic) is refusing to release info.” In a subsequent post, the Twitter user, Ron Dineen, also claimed Johnson & Johnson “halted all ...

FDA approves first condom meant for anal sex | TheHill – The Hill

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Wednesday authorized the first-ever condom intended for safe anal intercourse. Authorization of the One Male Condom is expected to help reduce the transmission of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV/AIDS in both anal and vaginal intercourse, the FDA said in a press release. “The risk of STI transmission during anal intercourse is significantly higher than during vaginal intercourse. The FDA’s authorization of a condom that is specifically indicated, evaluated and labeled for anal intercourse may improve the likelihood of condom use during anal intercourse,” said Courtney Lias, the director of the FDA’s Office of GastroRenal, ObGyn, General Hospital, and Urology Devices in the Center for Devices and Radiological Health. ...

Bucatini all’Amatriciana Recipe

A Classic Roman Dish - Bucatini all'Amatriciana Like many of you, Meg and I watched the Stanley Tucci special on CNN called Searching for Italy. In the Rome episode, he has lunch at Armando Al Pantheon to enjoy their famous rigatoni all'amatriciana, one of Rome's famous pastas. I made it a little different and call it bucatini all'Amatriciana. Of course I had to run out and buy the ingredients so we could make it at home. Not a lot of ingredients and very simple to prepare and absolutely delicious. Let's look at some of the ingredients. Bucatini Bucatini is a pasta that looks a lot like spaghetti but it is thicker and has a whole running down through the strand. My kids like to say it looks like a straw made out of pasta.  If you lived in Naples, Italy, you would call...

Priyanka Chopra Jonas to Rosie ODonnell: Google my name – CNN

The actress and producer, who is married to singer Nick Jonas, responded recently after O'Donnell shared a story about meeting the couple and mistakenly saying that Chopra was the daughter of author and alternative medicine advocate Deepak Chopra. "I have never taken myself so seriously to think everyone would know who I am, or my work for that matter," Chopra Jonas wrote in a note she shared on her Instagram stories. "But if you wanted to make a public apology for a very awkward private encounter, I think probably best to take the time to google my name before doing it or even try to reach out directly." O'Donnell posted on TikTok that she had embarrassed her son, his girlfriend and friend Fran Drescher during an outing at Nobu restaurant in Malibu where they met Chopra Jonas and h...

The “Wendy Williams Show” Ended As Messily As It Began – BuzzFeed News

Whether she was declaring Beyoncé inarticulate or airing out her concerns about Tabitha Brown’s marriage, Williams had no fear about eliciting the wrath of the Beyhive or prompting viral clapbacks. ("Wendy, the pain you must be in to feel this way. Honey, I'm so sorry," Brown replied, in what became a meme corralling shade with earnestness.) Williams was shady and ridiculous, but there were also subtler moments that captured why she was good at her job and understood pop culture. She clearly watched the shows she talked about and knew how to make good television. For instance, nobody else would needle Real Housewives of New Jersey star Teresa Giudice about being jealous of her sister-in-law to her face, knowing full well the wrong brand of cookies had started a major family ...

Many in N.J. have waning COVID immunity. So why can’t they get a second booster? – NJ.com

Around January, a disconcerting trend was emerging in the Hackensack Meridian hospital system. Many of the patients and staff who tested positive for the coronavirus were fully vaccinated — they had received their primary shots, plus if they were eligible, the booster. The common thread? They were more than four months out from their last primary vaccine series or booster. “We saw this a lot,” said Dr. Daniel Varga, the chief physician executive of Hackensack Meridian Health, one of the state’s largest hospital systems. “Breakthrough infections that we saw virtually never happen in the first four months after somebody either completed their primary immunization series or got their booster. “So [for] the first four months, we had virtually zero breakthrough cases. Then in the fifth mon...

ECMO therapy cuts Covid-19 patients chance of dying by half, if they can get it – CNN

But at the height of the pandemic, many patients couldn't get the treatment because there weren't enough beds, machines or skilled staff to care for them, the study found. Nearly 90% of patients who met Vanderbilt's stringent criteria to receive ECMO, but couldn't get in for care, died. "I think this is very powerful to me, because, you know, for the first time, we were actually seeing what is happening to these patients, when they don't receive this therapy," said lead study researcher Whitney Gannon, director of quality and education for the adult ECMO program at Vanderbilt. Gannon said when the Delta surge was at its worst in the South, she would get 10 to 15 calls a day for patients who needed ECMO. At maximum capacity, Vanderbilt had space for seven EMCO patients at a time, so many of...
