Whoopis Goldbergs offensive 1993 Jewish American Princess recipe – Daily Mail

Whoopi Goldberg's suspension from The View this week is the pinnacle of a years-long habit of making off-color remarks about Jewish people that includes a recipe she wrote for a celebrity cookbook in the 1990s called 'Jewish American Princess Fried Chicken', DailyMail.com can reveal. In 1993, Goldberg - whose real name is Caryn Johnson - submitted the recipe to Cooking in The Litchfield Hills, a charity cookbook comprised of recipes from the well-heeled residents of the leafy Connecticut suburb.  DailyMail.com exclusively obtained a copy of the long-forgotten cookbook, where Whoopi's recipe mocking Jewish-American women glaringly stands out amongst friendlier submissions like legend Diane Sawyer's 'roasted potato skins with scallion dip', the late Eartha Kitt's 'summer zucchini soup with ...

CDC: more vaccinated adults hospitalized with omicron, but fewer admitted to ICU – Yahoo News

A higher proportion of adults hospitalized with COVID-19 during the period of omicron dominance were fully vaccinated compared to the period of delta dominance, according to a new analysis, but those people were also less likely to be severely ill or die. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) analysis of a single hospital in Los Angeles found there were more hospitalizations during omicron compared to delta, but that among omicron-period patients, vaccination - particularly vaccination plus a booster dose - was associated with lower likelihood of admission to an intensive care unit. "COVID-19 vaccination, particularly a booster dose, continues to be critical in mitigating the health care burden of the omicron variant," the CDC concluded in its Morbidity and Mortality Weekl...

Face masks or respirators (N95/KN95s) effectively filter virus-sized particles in laboratory settings. The real-world effectiveness of face coverings to prevent acquisition of SARS-CoV-2 infection has not been widely studied. What is added by this report? Alzheimers-like changes found in COVID patients brains; flu shot, mRNA booster safe together – Yahoo News

By Nancy Lapid (Reuters) - The following is a summary of some recent studies on COVID-19. They include research that warrants further study to corroborate the findings and that has yet to be certified by peer review. Alzheimer's-like changes seen in COVID-19 patients' brains People who die of severe COVID-19 have brain abnormalities that resemble changes seen in Alzheimer's disease - accumulation of a protein called tau inside brain cells, and abnormal amounts of the protein beta-amyloid that accumulates into amyloid plaques - small studies have found. At Columbia University, Dr. Andrew Marks and colleagues studied the brains of 10 COVID-19 patients and found defects in proteins called ryanodine receptors that control the passage of calcium into cells. In Alzheimer's disease, defective r...

With Wordle Archive, You Can Play All The Wordles That Came Before Whenever You Want – Kotaku

Image: Devang Thakkar / Kotaku The magic behind Wordle is, of course, that there’s only one puzzle a day. Combined with the ease with which players can paste their spoiler-free results to social media and group chats, it’s that the whole world is all playing the same puzzle, the same day, that makes it so alluring. But screw that! You can now play the entire archive. Part of creator Josh Wardle’s motivation for keeping the game to one puzzle a day, and not making an app, was his desire that it not take over people’s lives. And then it went and took over the world. (Then he cashed out.) And as noble as his intentions might have been, of course there are many who would love to spend an idle bus ride, or dreary wait in a dentist waiting room, playing the neat little game over and over. Harvard medical professor joins growing calls to move on from the COVID-19 pandemic – Daily Mail

Dr Stefanos Kales (pictured), a professor of medicine at Harvard University, said that it was a mistake to allow infectious disease experts rather than public health experts to control the response to Covid. He also believes it is time for the nation to 'move on' from the pandemic. Calls for the United States to declare the COVID-19 pandemic over and return to 'normal life' are growing, as cases have dropped 40 percent nationwide and it seems that all 50 states are past the worst stages of the Omicron surge that started late last year. But despite the growing sentiment, federal health officials have been slow to lift mandates. The U.S. is averaging 361,072 cases per day, a far fall from the 800,000 cases per day at the peak of the Omicron surge in mid-January. Dr Ste...

Jan. ’22 +467,000 U.S. employers added 467,000 jobs in January, the Labor Department said on Friday. That showed the resilience of the recovery in the face of a resurgent pandemic. The January data was collected in the first weeks of the year, when coronavirus cases topped 800,000 a day and millions of workers were kept home by positive tests, suspected exposures or child care disruptions. That led many economists — and even the White House — to set ex...
