COVID vaccine 4th dose: CDC releases new guidance for some immunocompromised Americans to get additional shot – KABC-TV

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is issuing new advice for people who are immunocompromised. The health organization said people who've had the MRNA vaccines should look to get a fourth shot at least three months after the previous booster. The CDC had previously been recommending a wait of at least five months. RELATED: Could there be a universal vaccine for any type of coronavirus, not just COVID-19? The new guidance applies to people 18 and older who've had the Moderna vaccine, as well as those ages 12 and older for the Pfizer-BioNTech version. Government health officials are making the revision amid reports some pharmacies were turning away immunocompromised people looking for a fourth vaccine dose. A CDC official said there's been "recent confusion about the recomme...

Biggest breakthrough on pancreatic cancer is on the horizon that could even CURE the disease – Daily Mail

Scientists are on the cusp of the 'biggest ever' breakthrough in the treatment of pancreatic cancer. UK researchers have developed a two-in-one treatment that could dramatically improve survival and even cure the disease, which is one of the deadliest cancers. Survival rates for pancreatic cancer have barely improved in the last 50 years and it has the worst prognosis of any common cancer. In tests, mice given the new therapy – a combination of two treatments already used in hospitals – lived up to 40 per cent longer. The researchers, from the Institute of Cancer Research in London, say that it is potentially the biggest-ever breakthrough in the treatment of the disease and, if human trials are successful, it could be in widespread use within just five years. UK resea...

First UC Davis patient treated with help of new cancer-fighting cell therapy lab – KCRA Sacramento

Local researchers are on the frontlines of a cutting-edge cancer treatment that some are hailing a cure. "Right now, about 40% of patients may have long-term remissions from this, which is remarkable because almost all of those patients would have died of their disease," said Dr. Joseph Tuscano with the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center.UC Davis Health is among only a few places in the state to create so-called "cancer-fighting" cells as part of a new cellular therapy program. The treatment is called chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapy, or CAR T-cell therapy for short. It was first approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 2017."It is a way to remove to remove potentially defective immune cells from a patient with cancer and re-engineer them to target and kill the cancer...

Spotify CEO Daniel Ek confirms removal of Joe Rogan episodes after n-word video resurfaces – The Verge

Spotify CEO Daniel Ek addressed staff in a late night memo addressing Joe Rogan’s use of the n-word and the mysterious removal of 70 podcast episodes earlier this week. The total number of deleted Joe Rogan Experience episodes is now 113, according to the website jremissing.com. “Not only are some of Joe Rogan’s comments incredibly hurtful — I want to make clear that they do not represent the values of this company,” Ek writes in the memo, which The Verge obtained. “I know this situation leaves many of you feeling drained, frustrated and unheard.” He goes on to say Spotify spoke with Rogan and his team about “some of the content in his show, including his history of using some racially insensitive language.” Following these chats “and his own reflections,” Ek says Rogan “chose to ...

Other pieces were equally theatrical and sometimes featured ritualistic elements. A recording of whale songs made by a marine scientist inspired his “Vox Balaenae (Voice of the Whale)” for electric flute, cello and amplified piano (1971). The performers wear black half-masks; Mr. Crumb also specified that (where possible) the performance take place under blue lighting. He used various extended techniques, like strumming the piano strings with a paper clip, to create eerie sonorities. Each movement of his orchestral piece “Echoes of Time and the River” (awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 1968) features processionals in which small groups of musicians move around the stage in patterns and directions specified in the score — requirements Mr. Crumb later acknowledged were rather impractical. Pract...

Uhuru lauds Africas malaria fight – The Star, Kenya

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Sunday said Africa had made significant progress in the war against malaria in the last two years. He attributed the success to a four-point programme implemented by the African Leaders Malaria Alliance. “When I assumed the chair of ALMA, I came up with a four-point legacy agenda and the four key initiatives included digitisation and scorecard accountability and action plans, multi-sectoral advocacy, action and resource mobilisation, regional coordination and access to life-saving commodities,” the President said. The Kenyan Head of State spoke in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia where he presented last year's ALMA Malaria Progress Report at the ongoing 35th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union. Uhuru, who decried the su...
