Fleet Foxes Announce International Tour – Stereogum

As former Fleet Fox Father John Misty goes into album mode, his ex-bandmate Robin Pecknold is getting ready for the first Fleet Foxes tour in a long time. Fleet Foxes released their album Shore in 2020, and that timing meant that the band hasn’t been able to play any proper shows to promote that LP. Pecknold played one solo show at a Brooklyn church in December of 2020, and he released a recording of that show as a live album a couple of months ago. But Fleet Foxes haven’t headed out on a proper tour since 2018. That’s about to change. (more…)

Want to live longer? Drink up to three cups of coffee each day – Daily Mail

Drinking up to three cups of coffee every day could help you live longer, a decade-long study suggests. Regular drinkers of the hot beverage were up to 12 per cent less likely to die. And they were up to a fifth less likely to get cardiovascular disease or suffer a stroke, results showed. But experts found the health benefits only come from consuming ground coffee — not instant varieties. And drinking more than three cups a day doesn't have any good effects, according to the research of almost 500,000 people. Coffee is one of the most consumed drinks in the world but previous studies have been contradictory on whether it could benefit or harm health. As well as caffeine, the drink also contains minerals and antioxidants. Some studies have linked it with reducing the r...

Decades-Old Drug May Help Protect Against Severe COVID-19 Symptoms: Study – The Epoch Times

A drug that was approved by U.S. regulators more than 70 years ago may help protect against two major COVID-19 symptoms, according to a new study. Disulfiram, approved to treat alcoholism, protected rodents infected with COVID-19 from lung injury in the preclinical study done by researchers at Weill Cornell Medicine and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. Certain white blood cells called neutrophils form inside some people suffering from COVID-19, damaging the lungs. No drugs have yet been found to prevent this from happening, researchers said. Disulfiram, though, dramatically reduced the formation of neutrophil extracellular traps (NET), which cause fluid to accumulate in the lungs and sometimes lead to blood clots. Researchers dosed the mice with disulfiram a day befo...

Oscar nominations 2022: Who could EGOT at this years awards? – Fox News

Thanks to his 2022 Oscar nomination for his work on the Disney movie "Encanto," Lin-Manuel Miranda could become the 17th person ever to earn an EGOT.  "EGOT" stands for Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony, the four major awards in show business. While many consider themselves lucky to nab even one, others, like Whoopi Goldberg, Rita Moreno, Mel Brooks and John Legend, can boast of winning all four.  Now, thanks to his nomination for best original song, "Dos Oruguitas," in the animated film, a win could add the "Hamilton" creator to the list of EGOT winners. As Vanity Fair notes, the writer, performer and musician got his start in theater, nabbing a Tony award for his best original score for "In the Heights" in 2008. Eight years later, he’d win two more for "Hamilton."  LIN-MANUEL MIRANDA DIS...

How Tom Cruise and COVID-19 drove the Mission: Impossible budget off a financial cliff – Daily Mail

After several delays, one very public meltdown and countless attempts to work across multiple countries during a global pandemic the seventh instalment in the Mission: Impossible franchise may well be the most costly in its 26-year history.    The film will hit cinemas in July 2023 following a turbulent production, during which the returning Ethan Hunt - played by a seemingly relentless Tom Cruise - and an inflated studio budget both appeared to drive off a cliff.  For Cruise - who regularly performs his own daredevil stunts as Hunt - the opportunity to ride a motorcycle off a Norwegian rockface during one of the film's more pivotal scenes was 'something he wanted to do' since childhood.  Coming soon: After several delays, one very public meltdown and countless attemp...

Adeles snub to virtue-signalling record label chiefs and woke LA – Daily Mail

Adele is today at the centre of an extraordinary row between transgender rights activists and feminists after she took a stand against the ultra-woke 'genderless' Brit Awards by declaring: ‘I love being a woman’. Her speech while collecting Artist of the Year at the 02 Arena in London sparked uproarious cheers from the audience and viewers at home took to social media to say: 'Thank GOD she has said it'. The Brits axed separate male and female prizes for best solo and best international acts in 2022 to avoid upsetting several artists, including former Brit winner Sam Smith, who identifies as non-binary.  Collecting the award Adele said: 'I understand why the name of this award has changed. But I really love being a woman and being a female artist I do I’m really proud of us'. And some Ade...

Omicron found in NYC deer, study shows – Fox News

When New York City’s COVID-19 rates spiked last December due to the emerging omicron variant, humans weren’t the only mammals affected. The highly infectious variant also hit the white-tailed deer population on Staten Island, the most suburban of the city’s five boroughs, according to a study led by Penn State University scientists. DENVER DROPPING MASK OR PROOF OF VACCINE REQUIREMENT: OMICRON HAS 'RUN OUT OF FUEL' The omicron variant was detected in nasal swabs from seven of 68 Staten Island deer tested between Dec. 13 and Jan. 31, according to the study, which was funded by the USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture. It was already known that deer can catch COVID-19, after earlier variants were found in white-tailed deer in New York and several other states. But the Stat...

Changing your diet could add up to 13 years to your life, study says – CNN

"The notion that improving diet quality would reduce the risk of chronic disease and premature death is long established, and it only stands to reason that less chronic disease and premature death means more life expectancy," said Dr. David Katz, a specialist in preventive and lifestyle medicine and nutrition, who was not involved in the study. Katz, the president and founder of the nonprofit True Health Initiative, a global coalition of experts dedicated to evidence-based lifestyle medicine, has published research on how to use food as preventive medicine.
