Ivan Reitman, producer and director of Ghostbusters, has died at 75 – CNN

Reitman created some of the most enduring comedic films of the '80s and '90s, including 1984's "Ghostbusters," which he produced and directed. The movie was a major hit and launched a franchise that spanned decades, including last year's "Ghostbusters: Afterlife," directed by his son, Jason Reitman. "Tonight, the lady with the torch weeps, as do all of us at Columbia, and film lovers around the world. Ivan Reitman was an inseparable part of this studio's legacy, but more than that he was a friend," Tom Rothman, chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group, was quoted as saying in a tweet from the official "Ghostbusters" Twitter account. "A great talent and an even finer man; he will be dearly missed. We send his family all our condolences." Reitman was behind classics like "Na...

How strong is your immunity against Omicron? – Yahoo News

For months, scientists, public health officials, politicians and the general public have debated whether prior SARS-CoV-2 infection — touted as “natural immunity” — offers protection against COVID-19 that is comparable to vaccines. The answer to that debate is complicated, but studies show the best way to protect yourself against the Omicron variant of the coronavirus is to get vaccinated and then boosted. An infection on top of that, while not desirable, offers even more protection. Recent evidence suggests that “natural” COVID-19 protection depends on many factors, including when the infection happened, the variant involved, whether someone has been boosted or not, and the overall strength of their immune system. “The question about natural versus vaccination immunity is an important on...

An Undiscovered Coronavirus? The Mystery of the ‘Russian Flu’ – The New York Times

Dr. Taubenberger predicts better evidence will emerge. He and John Oxford, emeritus professor of virology at the University of London, have been looking for flu or coronavirus in old lung tissue from patients who were ill with a respiratory disease in the years before the 1918 flu. They had hoped to find them embedded in tiny blocks of paraffin no bigger than a pinky fingernail in the Royal London Hospital, a place that has tissue from patients dating back to around 1906. “We sampled hundreds of tissues,” Dr. Taubenberger said, without finding viruses. “We continue to look,” he said. But, he said, with renewed interest in the 1890 pandemic, he hopes some tissues containing the Russian flu virus — whatever it is — might be found, perhaps lying unnoticed in the basements of museums or medic...

Bucatini all’Amatriciana Recipe

A Classic Roman Dish - Bucatini all'Amatriciana Like many of you, Meg and I watched the Stanley Tucci special on CNN called Searching for Italy. In the Rome episode, he has lunch at Armando Al Pantheon to enjoy their famous rigatoni all'amatriciana, one of Rome's famous pastas. I made it a little different and call it bucatini all'Amatriciana. Of course I had to run out and buy the ingredients so we could make it at home. Not a lot of ingredients and very simple to prepare and absolutely delicious. Let's look at some of the ingredients. Bucatini Bucatini is a pasta that looks a lot like spaghetti but it is thicker and has a whole running down through the strand. My kids like to say it looks like a straw made out of pasta.  If you lived in Naples, Italy, you would call...

Far-right live streamer bursts into expletive rant at Louis Theroux – Daily Mail

A far-right live streamer launched a furious rant at Louis Theroux for being 'anti-white', after the journalist asked if he ever questions his actions.  Alt-right media personality Tim Gionet from Florida, uses the pseudonym Baked Alaska to live-stream himself pranking passers-by while playing racist or offensive music, with his audience funding him through donations.  Gionet, who livestreamed footage of himself among other Donald Trump supporters inside the Capitol during riots last year, appeared on the journalist's latest BBC2 series, Forbidden America, which aired last night.   After receiving a comment calling non-white and homosexual people 'subhuman', he told Theroux, 51, that while he doesn't agree with all of his viewers' opinions, he enjoys hearing 'uncensored' views.  Later, wh...

Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson Share Kiss on Early Valentines Dinner Date – TMZ

Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson don't appear to be sweating Kanye's barrage of attacks on social media -- sharing dinner and a kiss together -- the night before Valentine's Day. The couple hit Cipriani NYC Sunday for dinner, bundled up to brave the cold temps, but did their best to keep each other warm with a little PDA. While Pete and Kim have been together for several months now, the new pic is actually the first time we've seen them kiss in public. We should note, the two kissed during Kim's appearance on 'SNL' ... but it was all in good fun for an Aladdin skit. From dinner, we're told Pete and Kim joined some frien...
