Kate Telfeyan Writes About Modern Restaurant Life From the Inside

I met Kate Telfeyan more than a decade ago while working on a story about grilled pork belly—or was it mezcal negronis? Those were the hot topics in food media, and Telfeyan was one of my all-time favorite collaborators—she was a whip-smart publicist, and I was a writer and editor looking for help telling a story. We lost touch, but I heard Telfeyan had left PR and was working as a line cook at Ganso, a now-closed ramen restaurant in downtown Brooklyn. Epic! I next reconnected with Telfeyan not through an IRL encounter but through a thoughtful—and at times stinging—assessment of food media’s major blind spots in the New Republic. Her July 2020 piece “How Food Media Created Monsters in the Kitchen” links the rise of celebrity chefs to the media’s...

Bucatini all’Amatriciana Recipe

A Classic Roman Dish - Bucatini all'Amatriciana Like many of you, Meg and I watched the Stanley Tucci special on CNN called Searching for Italy. In the Rome episode, he has lunch at Armando Al Pantheon to enjoy their famous rigatoni all'amatriciana, one of Rome's famous pastas. I made it a little different and call it bucatini all'Amatriciana. Of course I had to run out and buy the ingredients so we could make it at home. Not a lot of ingredients and very simple to prepare and absolutely delicious. Let's look at some of the ingredients. Bucatini Bucatini is a pasta that looks a lot like spaghetti but it is thicker and has a whole running down through the strand. My kids like to say it looks like a straw made out of pasta.  If you lived in Naples, Italy, you would call...

Amy Schumer, Regina Hall, Wanda Sykes Eyed to Host Oscars (EXCLUSIVE) – Variety

Amy Schumer, Regina Hall and Wanda Sykes are finalizing details to host this year’s Academy Awards, multiple sources told Variety. The three comic forces appear to be the only emcees in the mix for the March awards show, despite several scenarios that telecast creatives have been weighing. Producer Will Packer has been in meetings for weeks trying to find the right recipe for Hollywood’s biggest night. Scenarios that “Girls Trip” filmmaker Packer had been toying with included a three-act structure, which would showcase a different pair of emcees every hour. A laundry list of top talent has met with Packer over the past weeks, including “Mad Men” star Jon Hamm who exited talks over the weekend, according to two additional sources. ABC, which airs the annual show, decline...

Kanye West Sends Kim Kardashian Truck Full of Roses For Valentines Day – TMZ

Kanye West clearly thinks he has a shot at reconciling with Kim Kardashian -- despite all signs pointing to a March divorce -- because he just sent a truckload of roses to her home. Yeezy just posted some pictures of his grand gesture ... and as you can see, it's a black truck with the bed piled high with dozens of pink and red flowers. Kanye customized the truck to say "MY VISION IS KRYSTAL KLEAR" along the side panel ... and he also used the phrase for his Instagram post. You'll recall ... Kanye made a big show of V...

But the baby was so premature that it would almost certainly die. If Chris waited, he could lose them both. As the pandemic enters its third year, untold numbers of Americans have agonized over such treatment questions that could mean life or death for their loved ones. Confronting the possible loss of a spouse or life partner is invariably painful, but with covid-19, the severity and suddenness of the illness and the isolation from friends and family have compounded...
