15 movies to watch (and watch for) at Sundance 2022 – The A.V. Club

Clockwise from upper left: jeen-yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy, 892, The Princess, When You Finish Saving The World (Photos: Courtesy of Sundance Film Festival) Often, the best movies to emerge from Sundance come flying out of left field: Though we’d never forget Boyhood or Manchester By The Sea, both from decidedly well-known directors who decided to debut their latest masterpieces in Park City, the festival is arguably more reliable as a ground zero for new talent. (Last year, for example, our favorite film of the fest was a microbudget breakthrough.) Nonetheless, each year it’s impossible not to try to handicap this sprawling field of premieres and identify in advance the ones that might become our new obsession, the new reason to look forward to this annual pilgrimage to Utah (or, last year...

Anna Kendrick and Bill Hader have been quietly dating for a year: report – Page Six

Anna Kendrick and Bill Hader have been secretly dating for more than a year, a source told People on Thursday. “Anna has been dating Bill quietly for over a year,” the insider told the outlet. “They met years ago. She’s hosted ‘Saturday Night Live’ and they’ve done a movie together, but they got together well after the movie.” The “Pitch Perfect” star, 36, and the “SNL” alum, 43, both starred in the Disney+ Christmas movie “Noelle” in 2019. “They are both very private people, and with the pandemic it was easy to keep it quiet,” the source continued. “They’re both hysterical so they must keep each other laughing all of the time. She’s really, really happy.” Reps for both stars didn’t immediately return Page Six’s request for comment. Kendrick a...

Binge-watching TV linked to higher risk of blood clots: study – New York Post

The result of watching too much television isn’t brain rot — it’s blood clot. New research shows that people who watch TV for more than four hours per day are more likely to develop a potentially fatal clotting condition called venous thromboembolism (VTE), the most common form of which is deep vein thrombosis (DVT). An estimated 1 million Americans will develop DVT annually, and up to 100,000 will die from it. The condition affects the deepest veins in your body, usually in the legs or pelvis, though it has been known to occur in the arms, too. The blockage forms due to a lack of vigorous blood circulation, often caused by sitting in the same position for an extended period. As the clot forms, many individuals will feel acute pain and swelling near the sit...

The genetic engineering behind pig-to-human transplants – Ars Technica

Enlarge / Cloned piglets that are engineered to be useful for organ transplants to humans. Last week, when we reported on the first pig-to-human heart transplant, we complained that the commercial company behind the operation wasn't more forthcoming about the genetic engineering that converted the pig into a viable donor. We now know much more about porcine genetic engineering thanks to a new paper covering a different, more cautious test procedure. The work described in the paper is a transplant of pig kidneys into a brain-dead recipient and is meant to pave the way for trials in viable humans. The publication that describes the work contains extensive details on the genetic engineering used to ensure that the pig tissue would survive in a huma...

When it first announced the Super LVI halftime show lineup of Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Kendrick Lamar, and Eminem, it was clear what the league is going for with the Los Angeles Super Bowl halftime show — vibes. This isn’t going to be a grab your second plate, or go over the business acquisition details at halftime kind of a show. This is going to be a multi-generational, get-your-beverage-ready at the end of the second quarter, make sure the big speakers are on kind of a halftime show. The NFL released a video today to promote this year’...
