Meat Loaf, ‘Bat Out of Hell’ Singer and Actor, Dies at 74 – The New York Times

Meat Loaf, the larger-than-life rocker whose 1977 debut, “Bat Out of Hell” — a campy amalgam of hard rock and Broadway-style bombast — became one of the best-selling albums of all time, died on Thursday. He was 74. His death was confirmed by his manager, Michael Greene. A cause of death was not given. Meat Loaf, who was born Marvin Lee Aday and took his stage name from a childhood nickname, had a career that few could match. He was a trained Broadway belter and a multiplatinum-selling megastar whose biggest hits, like “Bat Out of Hell” and “Paradise by the Dashboard Light,” were radio staples — and barroom singalongs — for decades. Despite his success, he earned little respect from rock critics. “Nutrition-free audio lunch meat” was how Rolling Stone dismissed “Bat Out of Hell” — which w...

André Leon Talley spent final years in White Plains avoiding covid-19 – Daily Mail

André Leon Talley, a fashion icon and driving force behind Vogue's success, spent his last days secluded at home trying to protect himself from the coronavirus that would ultimately kill him, the DailyMail.com has learned. Before the pandemic, he was — at more than 300 lb. — a larger-than-life character in his adopted hometown of White Plains, New York, where he'd regularly eat out at his favorite diner while posing for photographs with customers and sharing stories about his time at Vogue.  He would also make kind gestures such as dropping off flowers for neighbors. But six months ago, in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, one of those neighbors Barbara Galella said she stopped by his house to share a book from her uncle Ron Galella, a famed paparazzi photographer. She said Talley came ...

Natural immunity was more potent than vaccines during US Delta wave — study – The Times of Israel

During America’s last surge of the coronavirus driven by the Delta variant, people who were unvaccinated but had previously recovered from COVID-19 were better protected than those who were vaccinated and not previously infected, a new study said Wednesday. The finding is the latest to weigh in on a debate on the relative strengths of natural versus vaccine-acquired immunity against SARS-CoV-2, but comes this time with the imprimatur of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The authors of the paper warned, however, against depending on infection as a strategy, given the higher risks to unvaccinated persons who weren’t previously infected of hospitalization, long-term impacts, and death, compared to vaccinated people. Indeed, by November 30, 2021, som...

How do I know if I have long Covid? – Vox.com

Stuart Katz, a cardiologist at NYU Langone, got Covid-19 in December 2020, right before he was able to receive the Covid-19 vaccine as a health care professional. When we spoke for this article, more than a year since his infection, he told me excitedly that he just discovered he was able to eat honey again without it tasting awful. His extreme fatigue and brain fog had subsided after about six months, he says. Some aren’t so lucky. Strange and sometimes debilitating symptoms lasting long past the original bout of sickness are presenting in many people who’ve had Covid-19. The patient-coined term for this is long Covid, though experts often refer to it as post-Covid condition or PASC (for Post-Acute Sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection). Reports of how common long Covid is vary widely ...
