Even as a joke, its not funny; Lynnwood bar in hot water over viral post – Q13 FOX (Seattle)

Lynnwood bar advertised ‘catch the virus’ show In the past week, a pirate-themed bar in Lynnwood has lost staff, bands and other customers — over a show with advertised discounted prices for people sick with COVID-19. LYNNWOOD, Wash. - A Lynnwood bar is under fire after a viral post. Vessel Taphouse’s social media called for proof of positive COVID-19 test to give customers a discount. The bar is struggling as it sits with an open door, waiting for customers to walk in, and an empty parking lot. We spoke with an employee off-camera who says, like many local businesses, they just can’t catch a break. Now the staff is hurting trying to make ends meet. You need to know about head injury and dementia, even if youre not a football player – Salon

My father has dementia. The handsome young man who left before I was born, the pleasant, elusive fellow I have only met a few times in my life, struggles now to remember names and understand context. I got the news via a long-lost cousin recently, just a few days after my mother died after her own lengthy and painful journey through Alzheimer's. But my father's neurological path has been very different from my mom's, and it provides different warnings and lessons. It seems he didn't inherit his condition. He didn't develop it as an inevitable consequence of extreme old age either, because he's not that old. Instead, it turns out that the seed of his disease was planted long ago. My mother's descent was part of a terrifying family legacy. Her sister started showing signs of early onset Alz...

Contagious COVID-19 subvariant of omicron found in Yolo County – KCRA Sacramento

Yolo County has detected four COVID-19 cases of a new, highly-contagious subvariant of omicron, health officials said. It is known as the BA.2 subvariant."It is likely that there are more than four cases. If we've already found four cases, there's likely already community spread," said John Fout, public information officer for Yolo County. The subvariant is believed to be 1.5 times more contagious than the original omicron COVID-19 strain. In order to determine if this could mean another surge in COVID-19 cases, scientists are looking into whether someone who was already infected with the omicron variant would have some protection against the BA.2 subvariant."We've already had some reports from Denmark, for example, that people have had the original omicron infection and then, a month ...

Spotify-Joe Rogan backlash widens, but economics back streaming giants clout – Yahoo Finance

The growing clamor surrounding Spotify (SPOT) took a new turn over the weekend, with at least two more artists vowing to depart the platform over podcaster Joe Rogan — who the streaming giant backed in a statement. On Sunday, Spotify broke its silence after the company refused to give into Neil Young's ultimatum to drop "The Joe Rogan Experience" — the most popular podcast on Spotify — over controversies surrounding his stance on COVID-19 vaccinations. The legendary rocker's music will now be streamed exclusively on SiriusXM, with singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell and Bruce Springsteen guitarist Nils Lofgren also pushing to remove their songs from Spotify.  Although Spotify promoted "rules of the road" for its policies, and plans to add a content advisory to any podcast episode about COVID-...

Gottlieb predicts kids under 5 could get COVID vaccine by early March – New York Post

Former FDA Commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb said Sunday that a COVID-19 vaccine for children age 4 and under could be approved by early March. Gottlieb said the authorization would depend on whether federal officials move forward with Pfizer’s two-dose candidate, as opposed to the three-dose one added last month to the company’s clinical trials. The two-dose shot could presumably be approved the fastest of the two, since trials on it are further ahead, so it’s just a question of whether its potency is considered enough protection for the age group at this point, Gottlieb said. “Getting two doses into a child can provide baseline immunity that protects them from severe disease [and] from hospitalization,” the-ex-Food and Drug Administration chief told anchor Mar...

Howard Hesseman, the actor and improvisational comedian best known for playing a stuck-in-the-’60s radio disc jockey in the TV sitcom “WKRP in Cincinnati,” died on Saturday in Los Angeles. He was 81. Experts explain whats making BA.2 omicron subvariant more contagious than the original – WTVD-TV

SAN FRANCISCO -- There's a new "subvariant" of the omicron variant that's been spreading across Europe and the U.S. Preliminary data shows it's more contagious than omicron. Scientist have named it BA.2 a variant that's closely related to the original omicron strain. "In Denmark where it's sort of taken over it looks like it's 1 and a half times more infectious than the original omicron which was more infectious than delta," said Dr. Deepak Srivastava, President of the Gladstone Institutes. The CDC confirmed BA.2 is circulating at a low level in the US. Two cases of BA.2 were confirmed in Santa Clara County last week. Is it worse than omicron or delta? Dr. Srivastava explains.
