Omicron Covid strain evolved in mice – Chinese study – RT

Researchers’ findings have backed the theory that “Omicron may have evolved in a non-human animal species” The study into Omicron, published in the Journal of Biosafety and Biosecurity, found that “coronavirus slowly accumulated mutations over time in mice” before the virus was then “transmitted back to humans by reverse zoonotic.” The research, led by Dr. Xu Jianguo, who works for the National Institute for Communicable Diseases Control and Prevention of China, has identified mice as the “most likely intermediate host.” Researchers established that the “mutations profile” of the strain “shows that the virus has adapted to infect the cells of mice.” While scientists have established Omicron developed from a strain that circulated in mid-2020, they have be...

Boston patient removed from heart-transplant list because he’s not vaccinated against COVID: report – Fox News

The parents of a 31-year-old in need of a heart transplant at Boston’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital said their son has been removed from the transplant list because he has not been vaccinated for COVID-19, according to a report. The hospital told CBS Boston that its policy is in line with other transplant programs in the U.S. that require the vaccine because it fits under the lifestyle behaviors of the candidates. The statement said it is the hospital’s goal to "create both the best chance for successful operation and also the patient’s survival after transplantation." David Ferguson, the father of the patient DJ Ferguson, told the station that his son was at the front of the line to receive the organ, but was removed because he refuses to take the vaccine. His son is still at the hos...

This go home edition of Monday Night Raw is brought to you by absolutely nobody. But this recap is hosted by yours truly, while Claire handles blogging duties as per usual. The Royal Rumble is Jan. 29. Is WWE ready? Dig in and find out. Let’s talk Raw! Do Not Boo Birthdays Miz is an awful singer. Lucky for us, he’s a pretty good wrestler. That means Miz can take even the most stereotypical professional sports entertainment wrestling segments, like a birthday celebration for Maryse, and make it work. In fact, Maryse, Edge, and Beth Phoenix all played their parts just as well in Raw’s best story going into the Royal Rumble. For those who missed last week due to football or just living their lives, Maryse hit Beth with a brick. Yes, a brick. Sure, it was wrapped in a leat...

Long Live the Hot Dog of the Sea

My love for fish balls hardened at a Passover seder. I was in elementary school, and my best friend’s family had invited me to their holiday meal. When it came time to serve the infamous gefilte fish, my friend and her brother put on their annual gagging faces in protest. That year, in anticipation of this, my friend’s mother had spent hours chopping the carp and making a light soup for a homemade version of the holiday specialty, in order to avoid serving the jarred stuff that she knew her kids reviled. The results were mixed: They still hated the homemade version just as much, it turned out. I, on the other hand, loved it. I was embarrassed to love it at first, as my friend and her brother were so vocal in their disdain for the matzo-meal-boun...
