Amy Schneider’s Streak On “Jeopardy” Is Over, But She’s Most Proud Of Her Transgender Representation – BuzzFeed News

In an interview with BuzzFeed News on Thursday, Schneider said she and her girlfriend watched Wednesday's episode with friends, toasting champagne for her "wrap party." The last 24 hours had been a whirlwind of media interviews and messages from friends and fans. "I’m looking forward to having some time to sit down and process everything," Schneider said. "One thing that is nice is I don’t have to keep anything a secret anymore. That was a real struggle these last three months." The 43-year-old Oakland software engineer ultimately left Jeopardy with $1,382,800 in total winnings. She told BuzzFeed News that when she first started playing, the money only felt like a score. Michael Madsen is speaking out about his 26-year-old son Hudson's death for the first time. The family previously confirmed Hudson's death in a statement released Tuesday. "I am in shock as my son, whom I just spoke with a few days ago, said he was happy — my last text from him was 'I love you dad,'" Madsen told The Los Angeles Times. "I didn't see any signs of depression," he said. "It's so tragic and sad. I'm just trying to make sense of everything and understand what happened. He had typical life challenges that people have with finances, but he wanted a family. He was looking towards his future, so it's mind-blowing. I just can't grasp what happened." New subvariant of Omicron detected in Connecticut – WWLP.com

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Dr. Jacob Smith with Baystate Health said variants are like ice cream flavors. If omicron is chocolate chip, this new subvariant is still that flavor, but scientists are trying to figure out if it has more chocolate chips. However, he said this subvariant is something that needs to be taken seriously. “Whether or not it’s this kind of ice cream or that kind of ice cream it’s still an infectious disease,” Dr. Smith told 22News. “We know how to prevent, we know how to reduce our risk of getting it and we don’t want to get COVID-19.” What is ‘stealth omicron’? According to our affiliate in Connecticut, this subvariant is considered “stealthier” than the original version because its genetic traits are harder to spot. However, with the ...

Moderna begins early-stage trials of mRNA-based HIV vaccine – Engadget

Moderna has begun early-stage clinical trials of an HIV mRNA vaccine, the company announced this week. On Thursday, it administered the first doses of a shot it co-developed with the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative to volunteers at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. Like the company’s COVID-19 vaccine, the new treatment uses messenger RNA to “trick” the human body into producing proteins that will trigger an immune response. Moderna hopes the shot will induce a specific class of white blood cells known as B-cells, which can then turn into broadly neutralizing antibodies. Those proteins are “widely considered to be the goal of HIV vaccination, and this is the first step in that process,” according to the company. As part of the trial, Moderna...
