More People Are Getting Unapproved Fourth Doses of the Covid-19 Vaccine – The New York Times

If asked to show her vaccine card, Stacey Ricks can choose from three. Ms. Ricks, 49, a kidney transplant recipient who takes immune suppressing medication, didn’t develop antibodies after her first two Moderna shots. In June, without disclosing she already had received the Moderna shots, she got a dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine before federal health officials had approved anyone for a third shot. Getting her fourth and fifth shots was trickier. By July, pharmacy records in the Houston area where she lives finally showed her prior shots. "We are overwhelmed with the volume of patients that have really made that connection between obesity and Covid and the need for them to get appropriate care," said Cody Stanford, who is also an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School. Obesity and the increased risk of Covid-19 People with obesity are 46% more at risk of getting Covid-19, according to a study from August. Patton Oswalt defends performing with Dave Chappelle after backlash – New York Post

Patton Oswalt defended his decision to perform with embattled comedian Dave Chappelle on New Year’s Eve.  The comedian shared in a post on Instagram that he was conducting his last show of 2021 at a venue in Seattle when he got a text from fellow stand-up and friend, Chappelle. Apparently, they were performing next door to each other so Chappelle invited him to come do a drop-in set.  “Why not? I waved good-bye to this hell-year with a genius I started comedy with 34 years ago,” Oswalt wrote. “He works an arena like he’s talking to one person and charming their skin off. Anyway, I ended the year with a real friend and a deep laugh. Can’t ask for much more.” Oswalt’s fans were conflicted over his kind words toward Chappelle given that he faces backlash over commen...

Bill Cosbys Former Cellmates Still Calling Him for Guidance – TMZ

We know critics of Bill Cosby's overturned conviction would love to see him back in prison, but surprisingly ... a bunch of his former cellmates feel the same way, though not for the reasons you'd think. It's not a matter of jealousy, according to Cosby's rep, Andrew Wyatt ... who tells us Cosby's old buddies at SCI Phoenix reach out to him about 3 times a week. Instead, he says the prisoners are missing their guru, of sorts. As you know ... Cosby was sprung from prison back in June ... something he obviously celebrated, but his fellow inmates might not have been thrilled. ...

How will pandemic end? Omicron clouds forecasts for endgame – Yahoo News

Pandemics do eventually end, even if omicron is complicating the question of when this one will. But it won't be like flipping a light switch: The world will have to learn to coexist with a virus that's not going away. The ultra-contagious omicron mutant is pushing cases to all-time highs and causing chaos as an exhausted world struggles, again, to stem the spread. But this time, we're not starting from scratch. Vaccines offer strong protection from serious illness, even if they don't always prevent a mild infection. Omicron doesn't appear to be as deadly as some earlier variants. And those who survive it will have some refreshed protection against other forms of the virus that still are circulating — and maybe the next mutant to emerge, too. The newest variant is a warning about what w...
