Lawrence, 72, told Page Six on Monday that she contacted friend Carol Burnett, 88, in the wake of White's passing. Lawrence said, 'I texted Carol and said, "This just sucks. I hate this. It’s just horrible to see the people you love so much go away."' She continued: 'Carol wrote back and said, "I know, I know. I spoke to Betty’s assistant, who was with her when she passed, and she said the very last word out of her mouth was Allen." How sweet is that? I said, "That is so sweet. God, I hope that’s true. For all of us, I really hope it’s true, a lovely thought."'  The latest: Betty White's last word was calling ...

Pandemic paralysis: Only 1 in 10 teens getting enough exercise during COVID – Study Finds

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — Just nine percent of American teens are getting enough physical activity during the pandemic, a new study reveals. Researchers from the United States and Canada say that number has fallen significantly from the already paltry 16 percent getting enough exercise prior to COVID-19. Health experts have recommended that kids get about 60 minutes of physical activity per day, especially in the midst of the pandemic, which has increased the number of sedentary habits both children and adults participate in. “The pandemic led to the cancellation of in-person physical education classes and organized sports, gym and recreational facility closures, and rises in screen use, which all contributed to lower physical activity for teens,” says lead author Jason Nagata, an assis...

San Francisco now has 3rd highest COVID transmission rate in California – San Francisco Chronicle

San Francisco now has the third-highest coronavirus transmission rate in California, with a daily average case rate of about 104 per 100,000 residents. The county recorded a seven-day average of 896 cases per day on Dec. 30, the most recent available data. That is more than double the previous peak of 388 cases, a seven-day average recorded on Jan. 12 last year. At least one Bay Area county, Napa, is out of available intensive care beds as the virus once again tightens its hold on the region. San Francisco’s transmission rate ranks in California behind only Los Angeles County, with 118 cases per 100,000 residents — the highest reported there since the start of the pandemic — and Mono County with 109 per 100,000. Hiltzik: The downside of copyrights – Los Angeles Times

In recent years, every New Year’s Day has brought a bumper crop of literary and artistic works into the public domain — that is, out of copyright after decades of protection. This year, the harvest is especially rich. Among the written works first published in 1926 featured in what copyright experts at Duke Law School called Public Domain Day 2022 is “Winnie-the-Pooh,” A.A. Milne’s first exploration of the Hundred Acre Wood. Only a small percentage of works has an economically viable life even approaching 75 years. Congressional Research Service, 1998 Others include Ernest Hemingway’s novel “The Sun Also Rises”; poetry collections by Langston Hughes and Dorothy Parker; Felix Salten’s “Bambi,” and the first novels of William Faulkne...

Betty White agent denies rumor that her death was related to getting a booster shot – Daily Mail

Betty White's longtime agent and friend is denying an Internet rumor that the TV icon's death was linked to her getting a COVID-19 vaccine booster shot. Some social media users had shared a quote falsely attributed to White prior to her death, which said: 'Eat healthy and get all your vaccines. I just got boosted today.' However, her agent Jeff Witjas has denied she ever gave the quote, saying her death 'should not be politicized.'  In a statement to PEOPLE on Monday, Witjas added: 'Betty died peacefully in her sleep at her home. People are saying her death was related to getting a booster shot three days earlier but that is not true.' 'She died of natural causes. Her death should not be politicized — that is not the life she lived.'  Denial: Betty White's agent has d...
