What I gained (and lost) from walking 10,000 steps a day for five months – The Independent

On 2 January 2021, a friend told me that their New Year’s resolution was to walk 10,000 steps a day. It was the dead of winter and I was still feeling the effects of a champagne hangover from a night celebrating the end of 2020. When they asked whether I wanted to attempt the goal with them, I replied with a noncommittal yes. After all, it was freezing in New York City and the thought of walking aimlessly for hours outside didn’t sound appealing, no matter what the alleged health benefits. However, a quick glance at my iPhone’s Health app did slightly more to motivate me, as the built-in pedometer informed me that I’d walked an average of just 5,361 steps a day in 2020 as a result of lockdowns and working from home amid the pandemic. Throughout January and February, I made a few half-...

From infants to teens, this hospital has a deluge of young Covid-19 patients. Heres what parents want others to know – CNN

His mom, Gayvielle Goff, is struggling to talk. "It's just really scary," Goff said, trying to suppress tears. At the same Houston hospital, 17-year-old Halie Mulanax is fighting Covid-19 on a ventilator. She's never seen her 3-week-old baby because she's been in a medically induced coma for almost a month. Across the country, hospitals are grappling with an unprecedented surge of children with Covid-19 -- fueled by holiday gatherings and the highly contagious Delta and Omicron variants. Last week, an average of 574 children with Covid-19 were admitted to hospitals every day -- a pandemic record, according to data from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. And one doctor worries "we could see more children hospitalized over a very short period of time." A teen in a ...

CNN addresses Andy Cohens jab at Ryan Seacrest, ABC during NYE special: He said something he shouldnt have – Fox News

CNN issued a statement regarding a remark Andy Cohen made on-air while co-hosting the network's New Year's Eve special.  Cohen, who was progressively getting drunker throughout the broadcast alongside co-host Anderson Cooper, was reacting to a giant cloud of smoke that emerged as Journey was performing on-stage for ABC's New Year's Rockin' Eve, which was hosted by Ryan Seacrest.  ANDY COHEN'S DRUNKEN DE BLASIO RANT MADE CNN ‘WATCHABLE,’ BUT WAS LATEST EXAMPLE OF TOXIC CULTURE: CRITICS "There's a bunch of smoke coming from Ryan Seacrest's group of losers that are performing behind us," Cohen told viewers, causing Cooper to chuckle. "I mean, with all due — if you’ve been watching ABC tonight, you’ve seen nothing. I’m sorry, but it's true." Screen capture of CNN host Andy Coh...

Israel, a highly vaccinated country whose people follow public health safety precautions, predicts one-third of its population may get infected with Omicron in the next few weeks. In similarly well-vaccinated but much less cautious Rhode Island, the state may experience something comparable if not worse, with one-third to even one-half of Rhode Islanders becoming infected with Omicron. An Omicron COVID infection can be very serious and debilitating even if it turns out to be ‘milder’, and there are very good reasons to avoid it including crowded hospitals and overworked doctors and nurses which means space might not be available f...
