Record-breaking Jeopardy! champ Amy Schneider reveals she was robbed – New York Post

Record-breaking “Jeopardy!” winner Amy Schneider has opened up about getting robbed over New Year’s weekend. Schneider, a lifelong fan of the show and its first transgender contestant to qualify for the elite “Tournament of Champions,” revealed Monday on Twitter that she was mentally recovering after having a number of her personal items stolen. “Hi all! So, first off: I’m fine. But I got robbed yesterday, lost my ID, credit cards, and phone,” the Oakland, California, resident and Ohio native began in a tweet thread about the experience. “I then couldn’t really sleep last night, and have been dragging myself around all day trying to replace everything.” While physically alright, Schneider says she’s taking it easy following the traumatizing experience and warne...

Hundreds of employees test positive for COVID-19, Henry Ford Health says – The Detroit News

Henry Ford Health System had 686 employees test positive for COVID-19 over the last seven days, one of the highest tallies for one of the state's largest health systems amid Michigan's omicron surge.  The workers with positive COVID results represent about 2% of the Detroit-based system's more than 32,000 employees. The five-hospital system's emergency rooms are "extremely busy," monoclonal antibody treatments are scarce and 97 beds have had to be closed because of staffing shortages, said Dr. Adnan Munkarah, executive vice president and chief clinical officer for the hospital system.  The 97 beds closed across three hospitals represent about 5% of the total 2,000 beds across the hospital system. Staffing shortages plagued Henry Ford and other Michigan health systems before the pandemic b...

Huawei ban gets parodied in truly bizarre Chinese state media sketch – The Verge

China’s state news agency, Xinhua News, has released a bizarre James Bond-themed parody video mocking the US and UK’s crackdown on Huawei. It really needs to be seen to be believed. The English-language video was spotted by Gizmodo and has been released both on Xinhua’s New China TV YouTube channel as well as its China Xinhua News Twitter account, with both accounts carrying a warning about their affiliations with the Chinese state. I mean, where do we even start with this video. There’s the fact that our protagonist is called James Pond, in what appears to be an unwitting reference to the series of ’90s video games based on an anthropomorphic mudskipper of the same name. Or what about the fact that one secret agent is supposedly doing an American accent while the other is doing a ...

Boy, 9, almost went blind when he developed Covid-eye after testing positive for the virus – Daily Mail

A nine-year-old boy almost went blind and spent Christmas in hospital after developing 'Covid eye' - a rare side effect that scientists have linked to coronavirus. Zac Morey, who is in Year 5 at school, lost vision in his left eye less than a week after testing positive for the virus. The boy's eye completely closed up following his diagnosis with orbital cellulitis - a bacterial infection of the eye socket.  Zac, from Bristol, has since fully recovered but his family have warned others that if the infection is too deep it can cause blindness. His mother Angela, 37, said: 'His eye looked like it was going to explode. 'There was no way he could open it without pulling the skin. It was swollen beyond anything I've ever seen.' Zac Morey, aged nine, from Bristol, lost vis...

Salt Lake Co. health dept. issues advisory as omicron cases surge after holiday – fox13now.com

SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake County Health Department (SLCoHD) issued an official public health notice about the COVID-19 Omicron variant's record-breaking transmission on Tuesday morning. The advice, which is in place until January 31, 2022, strongly advises residents and workers in Salt Lake County to take the following steps, which have been shown to be helpful in avoiding the spread of COVID: Wear a face mask, regardless of vaccination status, whenever indoors in public. Masks should always cover the nose and mouth, and the advisory notes that higher-quality masks, such as KN95s or KF94s, may offer additional protection. Stay home if they are exhibiting any symptoms of illness—regardless of vaccination status or past infection—and get tested for COVID. Follow CDC guidance for isola...
