SAN ANTONIO – The City of San Antonio will be adding three new COVID-19 testing sites through a partnership with Community Labs to address testing capacity and wait times that some have said lasted hours. Wednesday’s COVID-19 numbers The San Antonio Metropolitan Health District said the omicron variant had led to a three-fold increase in daily cases of COVID-19. Metro Health’s COVID-19 dashboard showed an increase of 2,757 new cases, with a 7-day moving average of 2,875. There were also seven new deaths reported Wednesday, bringing the total to nine deaths over the past seven days. There are 569 COVID patients in local hospitals, with 134 in ICU and 48 on ventilators. Metro Health’s dashboard shows there are 11% of staffed beds available and 65% of ventilators available. The first cases of simultaneous flu and COVID-19 infections have been detected in the United States in two children from Texas and California.  The 'Flurona' cases were found this week in a child in Texas and one in Southern California. The first case was diagnosed at Texas Children's Hospital Monday after a test confirmed the child was infected with both influenza A and SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID. The child was not hospitalized and is said to be recovering at home, USA Today reported. No other details about the patient were immediately available. The GraceKennedy Group has announced that it will be implementing a COVID-19 vaccination policy for its employees and contractors this year. Under the policy, effective January 14, GK team members will be required to disclose their vaccination status to the company. A COVID-19 vaccination requirement will then take effect next month. As of February 11, all GK employees, contractors and consultants will be required to be either fully or partially vaccinated against COVID-19. The patient was described only as a teenage boy with mild symptoms who tested positive for both flu and COVID. He and his family had just returned from a trip to Cabo San Lucas, and he was the only member experiencing symptoms. He was the only one in his family to test positive for both viruses, but one of his parents has tested positive for COVID.
