Los Angeles County reports more than 43,000 COVID-19 infections in one day, a new record – KABC-TV

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Los Angeles County has once again set a record for coronavirus cases in a single day, reporting more than 43,000 new infections on Friday. The new figure broke an old record set just the day before of more than 37,000 new COVID-19 cases. The county also reported 28 additional deaths from the virus. LA County continues to face an increased strain on the local healthcare system driven by a shortage of hospital workers as many of them contract the virus and have to stay away from the workplace. The continued danger posed by the virus to young people was demonstrated in Orange County, which is now reporting its third death in a child under 5 years old from COVID-19. "COVID does affect the children and unfortunately this child was too young to get vaccinated," said Dr. R...

COVID-19 Statistics | Jan. 7, 2022 – Lost Coast Outpost

Humboldt County Public Health reported today 72 new cases of COVID-19, bringing to 11,805 the total number of residents who have tested positive for the virus. Two new hospitalizations, a resident in their 50s and one in their 70s, were also reported. As part of its ongoing monitoring, a small number of samples of positive COVID-19 cases from primarily health care staff tested this week by the Humboldt County Public Health Lab suggest that the Omicron variant is increasing in the community. Additional samples from the state have confirmed cases of Omicron from late December and early January. As the pandemic continues, health officials say to pay attention to hospitalizations more than positive cases, adding that vaccination and boosters provide an increased level of protection from Omi...

What is ‘Flurona and What Are the Symptoms? Chicago-Area Doctor on What to Know – NBC Chicago

Yes, it's possible for someone to be diagnosed with both flu and COVID at the same time, doctors say. Cases of people who have tested positive for both viruses, in what has now been coined "flurona," have been reported recently. But despite some false portrayals online, the viruses have not merged to create a new illness. They remain separate infections. "Flurona is a thoughtfully-named experience that can in fact occur. Here's what we know so far about "flurona" and what to expect. Have there been any cases in the Chicago area so far? ...
