Golden Globes Put on an Event That Could Have Been Put in an Email – Variety

The Golden Globes were held with no pomp and circumstance in a room devoid of celebrities, red carpets and splashy media coverage. Instead, winners were live-tweeted on the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s social media channels, with the show focusing on philanthropy. Netflix was the night’s big winner in film, while HBO led in TV, and yet neither can even spike the ball for the touchdown. Netflix nabbed best picture (drama) for the first time for “The Power of the Dog,” while also picking up director (Jane Campion) and supporting actor (Kodi Smit-McPhee). 20th Century Studios, under the Disney umbrella, took home three major prizes for “West Side Story,” including acting prizes for Rachel Zegler in lead actress comedy and Ariana DeBose for supporting actress. Zegler is t...

Golden Globes 2022: Jamie Lee Curtis and Arnold Schwarzenegger are only stars to appear – Daily Mail

Jamie Lee Curtis and Arnold Schwarzenegger were the only celebrity to appear digitally at Sunday night's Golden Globes. The 2022 event took place behind closed doors with no celebrities at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, after The Hollywood Foreign Press Association came under fire for the lack of black representation among its members. However, the actress, 63, had filmed a pre-recorded message detailing the HFPA's philanthropic efforts. Low-key: Jamie Lee Curtis and Arnold Schwarzenegger were the only celebrity to appear digitally at Sunday night's Golden Globes In the clip, the Halloween star said of the organisation's charitable donations: 'I am proud to be associated with them in this venture. 'They do so at a very low key, off the record, evening of g...

Exercise may protect your brain even if you have signs of dementia, study finds – CNN

It gets even better. A new study finds exercise boosts levels of a protein known to strengthen communication between brain cells via synapses, which may be a key factor in keeping dementia at bay. The protective effect was even found in active older people whose brains showed signs of plaques, tangles and other hallmarks of Alzheimer's and other cognitive diseases. "Synapses are the critical communicating junctions between nerve cells and are really where the magic happens when it comes to cognition," said study author Kaitlin Casaletto, an assistant professor of neurology in the Memory and Aging Center at the University of California San Francisco, in an email. "All of our thinking and memory occurs as a result of these synaptic communications," she added. Prior studies have shown that p...

Doctor reveals he suffered irrational panic and feared his son would die after catching the virus – Daily Mail

A renowned doctor known for updating his Twitter followers on the pandemic admitted that his 'parental emotion' caused him to panic when his 28-year-old son got COVID last week, though the odds of a vaccinated young person dying are 'near-zero.' Dr. Bob Wachter, the chair of the department of medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, shared his journey of watching his son fall ill with the coronavirus and recover in a series of 25 tweets on Saturday. He said his triple-vaccinated son is 'generally healthy but overweight, placing him in a moderately high-risk group.'   When he caught COVID after watching a movie with a friend, Dr. Wachter described checking in on him frequently, getting worried when a reply came slowly, and even letting himself into his home to find him 'sle...

A Pot, a Pan, and a Plan for the Planet

What defines our current era of home cooking? Is it an aspiration toward mindful eating? An eye for verdant vegetables? Maybe it’s all those things, mixed with a healthy dose of realism about climate crisis? Over the course of her first three cookbooks, A Modern Way to Eat, A Modern Way to Cook, and The Modern Cook’s Year, English author Anna Jones has grappled with this question. It’s a topic we talked about when Jones was a guest on the TASTE Podcast three years ago, and it’s a topic that Jones has returned to, with great purpose, in her latest cookbook, One: Pot, Pan, Planet. One: Pot, Pan, Planet provides a wholistic, feasible, and flexible plan for how a home cook can think about the massive, daunting question of eating sustainably. There...
