Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly Are Engaged – E! NEWS

Machine Gun Kelly swore he'd never fall in love—but then Megan Fox showed up and now he can't get enough of it. In fact, the rocker is so in love that he decided to propose to the Jennifer's Body actress.  MGK popped the question on Jan. 11, Megan revealed on Instagram the following day.  "In July of 2020 we sat under this banyan tree," she wrote along with a video of the romantic proposal. "We asked for magic... We were oblivious to the pain we would face together in such a short, frenetic period of time. Unaware of the work and sacrifices the relationship would require from us but intoxicated off of the love. And the karma."  The Transformers star continued, "Somehow a year and a half later, having walked through hell together, and having laughed more than I ever imagined possib...

Girl younger than 10 confirmed as Houstons youngest COVID victim, city health department says – KHOU.com

According to them, the little girl was younger than 10 and had underlying health conditions. She passed away in mid-October. We asked the health department why the death is just now being reported and they sent us this statement: "There is no standard length of time for reporting COVID deaths. It’s a complex process requiring several investigative steps that may include obtaining lab results, death certificate, locating and interviewing the next of kin, interviewing the patient’s physician, medical records review, and securing other relevant information such as autopsy results if one is conducted.” The health department said genome sequencing didn't identify which COVID variant she was infected with. They also can't share much more info...

Could cannabis prevent COVID? To the authors of a new study, it sure looks like it – Salon

A groundbreaking new study published this week identified what could be an unexpected tool in the world's fight against COVID-19: cannabis. Yes, you read that right. According to a peer-reviewed paper published this week in the Journal of Natural Products, titled "Cannabinoids Block Cellular Entry of SARS-CoV-2 and the Emerging Variants," at least three compounds naturally occurring in the cannabis plant were shown in lab tests to be effective at stopping coronavirus molecules from entering human cells. The mechanism effectively mimics the activity of antibodies, with the cannabis compounds attaching themselves to the virus' spike protein, one of the authors told Salon. The study concludes: With widespread use of cannabinoids, resistant variants could still arise, but the combination of ...

Geico made the Portal ad we never asked for – The Verge

We’re still waiting on the Portal movie that’s apparently been years in the making, but if you must see Portal icon / villain GLaDOS in some sort of cinematic, there’s a new Geico ad you can watch right here or at the top of this post. Yes, you read that correctly — Geico actually made a Portal-themed ad featuring GLaDOS, and the insurance company even got voice actor Ellen McLain to reprise her role as the famous robot. If you’ve seen any Geico ad featuring Martin the Gecko from the past many years (or perhaps forever, it feels like he’s always been a character I’m aware of), this ad will be familiar territory. Martin, armed with an Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device, makes a few quips (and of course mentions that it’s possible to save money by switching to Geico), and GLaDOS ...

‘Mockingbird,’ Once a Broadway Smash, to Pause Production Amid Omicron – The New York Times

The producers of “To Kill a Mockingbird,” a hit play that had been packing in audiences before the pandemic, announced Wednesday that they would shut down the show until June, lay off the cast and crew, downsize the production and then reopen in a smaller theater. At the same time, “Girl From the North Country,” a heart-tugging musical that uses the songs of Bob Dylan to consider the Depression-era plight of a group of down-on-their-luck Midwesterners in the town where Dylan was born, said it would end its Broadway run on Jan. 23, and would try to reopen in another theater this spring. They became the seventh and eighth Broadway shows to announce temporary or permanent closing dates since early December, when the Omicron variant sent coronavirus cases soaring in New York. Their plans for...

Like many Americans, health experts are frustrated by the CDCs messaging problem. Heres what they have to say. – USA TODAY

Americans navigating the COVID-19 pandemic during the latest virus surge say frequent changes in federal guidelines don't make their lives any easier. Since the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention slashed isolation recommendations from 10 to five days, many people are confused: Should they quarantine or isolate? For how long? With or without testing?

An experimental vaccine could help fight the opioid epidemic – CBS News

Tackling the opioid crisis requires changing strategies and the way we think about addiction, says Columbia University professor Sandra Comer.  At least 100,000 people died from a drug overdose between May 2020 and May 2021 — up 22% from the year before, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In the last two decades, nearly 1 million Americans have died from drug overdoses, with more than 70% of them involving opioids.  "One of the mistakes that people make when they think about drug users, 'Oh, it's somebody's choice to have this disorder.' That's not true," she said. "It's a medical disease and we need to treat it."  Medically assisted treatments can be effective but have a relapse rate of about 50%, Comer said.  "That's why we're continuing to look for new ...

Larsa Pippen Reveals Where She Stands With Kim Kardashian & Her Thoughts on Pete Davidson – E! NEWS

In fact, Larsa even gave her take on Kim's new romance with Pete Davidson.  "You know what, I just want everyone to be happy," she explained on Daily Pop. "If you're happy, I'm happy." Larsa herself recently finalized her divorce from Scottie Pippen, though the former couple of 20 years actually split five years ago. "I feel like it was the longest divorce in history," she said. "I was like, 'Is this ever going to end?'" However, the pair—who share kids Scotty Pippen Jr., 21; Preston Pippen, 19; Justin Pippen, 17; and Sophia Pippen, 13—remain close today.  "We're best friends," Larsa revealed. "We co-parent the same. We love each other. If Scottie said he needed a kidney, I would give it to him. I love him so much."
