Did Patton Oswalt Manifest This Book of Boba Fett Moment? – Vulture

Manifestation is a powerful tool. Photo: YouTube Almost nine years ago, a Pawnee citizen by the name of Garth Blunden, played by Patton Oswalt in a guest appearance, filibustered a town-hall meeting in season five of Parks and Recreation with a bit of inspiration from Marvel and Star Wars. Oswalt’s speech has become one of the show’s most famous moments — and it may even have been a little prophetic. The first episode of The Book of Boba Fett, a spinoff of The Mandalorian, features a scene that matches part of the filibuster nearly to a T. Here’s Oswalt’s Blunden: Pan down from the twin suns of Tatooine. We are now close ...

Todd McCarthy’s Films Of The Year: It Was The Worst Of Times Off And Onscreen In 2021 – Deadline

This past year couldn’t be expiring soon enough as far as most of the world is concerned, and we can only hope that the next one will at least provide small measures of relief in one regard or another. May this be true for the planet first and foremost, but also for the world of films. I’ve experienced 2021 as the worst year for movies in quite a few decades. Perhaps if I seriously combed through the 1980s I might find some that were worse, but I nonetheless felt seriously unrewarded for all the hours I put in watching films that simply didn’t rise to the occasion, including some that found significant critical favor with others. There were, perhaps, a couple of dozen films that ventured into excellence, but just four of these came from what we’re accustomed to call...

20,000 new L.A. County coronavirus cases amid Omicron surge – Los Angeles Times

The long-feared winter coronavirus wave reached new heights Thursday as Los Angeles County reported more than 20,000 new cases, fueled in part by the highly transmissible Omicron variant that is washing over the region. Overall, California’s reported average daily coronavirus caseload has more than quadrupled in the last two weeks — an astonishing rise that has pushed infection levels significantly higher than at any point during the summer surge. “We are, in fact, experiencing the worst of a surge at the moment with the rising number of cases,” county Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer told reporters. Thursday’s total in L.A. County, 20,198, is one of the highest in the pandemic. Over the last two days, the nation’s most populous county has announced nearly 37,000 new cases. “The ri...

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’: Tom Holland and Zendaya on the ‘Bittersweet Ending – Marvel Entertainment

Spider-Man might have stopped the Multiverse from breaking any further and sent all the antagonistic ‘visitors’ back to their proper universe, but at what cost? The end of Spider-Man: No Way Home sees Peter Parker make one of the toughest, if not the toughest, decision of his life. Knowing that he’s the catalyst for the calamity unfolding around him and that there’s the only way he can put an end to it, Peter asks Doctor Strange to cast another spell — make everyone forget he’s Spider-Man, for real, this time.   While this sends the likes of Doc Ock, Green Goblin, Electro, Sandman, and Lizard back to where they came from, this also means that everyone in his universe is going to forget Peter Parker ever existed, too. Sadly, that includes his girlfriend MJ and his best friend Ned, no...

Children’s mental health may suffer if they spend too much time on electronic devices, study suggests – Fox News

Increased electronic screen time was associated with worse mental health issues in children compared to those with lower levels of screen time during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a recent JAMA Network Open paper published this week.  The researchers conducted a longitudinal cohort study between May 2020 and April 2021 among 2026 Canadian children between the ages of two to 18 years old, measuring primary outcomes with depression and anxiety and secondary outcomes with conduct problems, irritability, hyperactivity, and inattention.   6 APPS TO HELP DE-STRESS IN THE NEW YEAR Parents completed repeated questionnaires about their children’s mental health during the pandemic, documenting how long their children spent watching television or the time their children spent on electronic...

Covid-19, Omicron and Vaccines: Live News Updates – The New York Times

Children wait to receive their vaccine in Albuquerque in November.Credit...Paul Ratje for The New York Times The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released two studies on Thursday that underscored the importance of vaccinating children against the coronavirus. One study found that serious problems among children 5 to 11 who had received the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine were extremely rare. The other, which looked at hundreds of pediatric hospitalizations in six cities last summer, found that nearly all of the children who became seriously ill had not been fully vaccinated. More than eight million doses of the Pfizer vaccine have been given to children 5 to 11 in the United States so far. But concerns about the unknowns of a new vaccine caused some parents to hesitate in allowing...
