Box Office: ‘Eternals’ Struggles to Marvel Audiences – Hollywood Reporter

Chloé Zhao’s Eternals may have trouble reaching $70 million in its domestic box office debut after earning a mediocre B CinemaScore from moviegoers. That’s the lowest audience grade of any of the 26 titles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe;  the previous lowest was the first Thor (B+). The rest have earned a variation of an A CinemaScore. Plenty of fanboys turned out on opening day to see Eternals thanks to Marvel’s loyal following but the film is looking front-loaded. Eternals grossed an estimated $30.7 million on Friday, including $9.5 million in Thursday previews. Box office analysts are projecting a weekend debut in the $67 million to $69 million range as a result of tepid exit scores. Eternals is faring better overseas, where it has grossed $38...

Heres why the Bay Area landed back in the red and orange CDC tiers for COVID spread – San Francisco Chronicle

Maybe it was all too good to be true. As COVID-19 case rates fell through the autumn, it seemed as if finally the pandemic was drawing to an end. But then, as it has so many times before, the coronavirus threw another punch. After slow but steady improvement in the public health metrics, the numbers hit a wall. As of Tuesday this week, the entire Bay Area returned to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s orange “substantial” and red “high” categories of coronavirus transmission. Truth is, case rates haven’t changed dramatically in recent weeks. Since the beginning of October, several Bay Area counties — including most recently Marin and San Francisco — have bounced between the “moderate,” “substantial” and “high” levels, with case rates zig-zagging across the line...

Most children and teens who test positive for COVID-19 present little to no symptoms, but a fraction of them will still show symptoms more than a month after they were first infected with the coronavirus. Here is what to know about how many kids get long COVID, the symptoms, and how long they can occur in children and teens. Dr. Sandra Adams, a professor of biology and virologist at Montclair State University, told NJ Advance Media that “studies differ” and “numbers vary from 5% to as high as 15% of children worldwide” who get long COVID. Dr. Bruce Patterson, a former medical director of diagnostic virology at Stanford University who is now with IncellDx and the Chronic Covid Treatment Center, said that a small fraction of the kids who come down with COVID get long COVID. “The lon...

By Annie Berman Updated: 18 hours ago Published: 18 hours ago Alaska on Friday reported one COVID-19 death, 870 cases and 150 hospitalizations following a recent trend of gradually declining virus case counts statewide. Over the last week, Alaska saw about an 8% decline in cases compared to the week before, according to state data. But despite the generally downward trend, data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as of Friday continued to show Alaska with the highest case rate in the nation. Over the past seven days, Alaska had 583.6 cases per 100,000 people, nearly four times the national rate. Virus-related hospitalizations also continued to fall. By Friday, there were 150 people with COVID-19 hospitalized around the state, down from 159 reported Thursday. That number...

Answering kids (and parents) questions about the Covid-19 vaccine for ages 5 to 11 – CNN

"My mommy and my papi said that it will help keep me, my friends, my neighbors, my abuela all healthy," Rosita tells CNN Chief Medical Correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta on the sixth town hall co-hosted by CNN and Sesame Street's Big Bird and friends. "Your parents are absolutely right," Gupta tells Rosita. "Covid vaccines are now available for children 5 years and older and the more people who get them, the better we're going to be able to help stop the spread of Covid and keep everyone healthy." Will it hurt? Ouch. "By far the No. 1 thing that I hear is, 'I don't want this to hurt. How bad is it going to hurt?'" pediatrician and child development expert Dr. David Hill told CNN last month. "I never lie to kids. I never tell them it's not going to hurt at all or you're not going to f...
