Astroworld Festival disaster: 5 out of 8 victims identified in Astroworld Festival mass casualty – KTRK-TV

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Six of the eight people killed in Friday's Astroworld Festival disaster have been identified. John Hilgert, a ninth-grade student at Memorial High School, died during the incident, according to a letter from school administrators sent Saturday to parents. "Our hearts go out to the student's family and to his friends and our staff at Memorial," MHS Principal Lisa Weir wrote. "This is a terrible loss, and the entire MHS family is grieving today." Counselors will be made available to students next week to offer support as they process the loss of their classmate, Weir said. Green ribbons were found wrapped around the building on Saturday. Hilgert was among the eight victims at the event, who had not been identified by authorities Saturday, though they did say there...

Mourning starts as Houston officials probe concert deaths – Associated Press

HOUSTON (AP) — Investigators Sunday worked to determine how eight people died in a crush of fans at a Houston music festival, as friends and loved ones mourned the victims and a makeshift memorial of flowers and candles took shape at the site. Authorities planned to use videos, witness interviews and a review of concert procedures to figure out what went wrong Friday night during a performance by rapper Travis Scott. The tragedy unfolded when the crowd rushed the stage, squeezing people so tightly they couldn’t breathe. Bouquets, votive candles, condolence notes and T-shirts, including a Scott shirt, were left outside at NRG Park. Michael Suarez, 26, came to the growing memorial after attending the concert. ”It’s very devastating. No one wants to see or hear people dying at a festival,...

GOP attacks Sesame Streets Big Bird for promoting COVID vaccine: “Brainwashing children!” – Salon

Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz and other right-wingers lashed out at "Big Bird" on Saturday after the Sesame Street character's Twitter account advocated getting vaccinated for COVID-19. "I got the COVID-19 vaccine today!" Big Bird wrote Saturday morning. "My wing is a little sore, but it'll give my body an extra protective boost that keeps me and others healthy." "Ms. @EricaRHill even said I've been getting vaccines since I was a little bird. I had no idea!" Big Bird added, referring to CNN journalist Erica Hill, who hosted a Town Hall with Big Bird called "The ABCs of COVID Vaccines." Cruz responded by writing above Big Bird's tweet, "Government propaganda...for your 5 year old!" Steve Cortes, a Newsmax host, went a step further. "This kind of propaganda is actually evil," Cortes wrote...

Hilaria Baldwin shares post about trauma, seeking help amid Alec Baldwin Rust shooting – Fox News

Hilaria Baldwin took to Instagram on Sunday morning to show that she’s surrounding Alec Baldwin with family following his traumatic incident on the set of "Rust."  Alec was holding a prop gun that somehow went off on the set and discharged a live round that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and wounded director Joel Souza. Since then, Baldwin, his wife and their six children immediately retreated to New England to spend some time together as a family as the investigation continues.  On Sunday, Hilaria shared a video compilation that seemingly showed how the family has been spending time with their kids, particularly their two youngest infants. Meanwhile, she took to her Instagram Story where she shared a pair of motivational quotes from Nate Postlethwait, whose Twitter account typ...

This was not a concert, this was a fight for survival – CNN

TK Tellez knows that festivals can get crazy. But nothing, he says, could have prepared him for the tragedy that unfolded Friday night at the Astroworld Festival in Houston. But before Scott even came out, things got ugly, fast. The crowd surged forward while Scott was on stage. "The crowd became tighter and tighter, and at that point it was hard to breathe. When Travis came out performing his first song, I witnessed people passing out next to me," Tellez, 20, told CNN. "We were all screaming for help, and no one helped or heard us. It was horrifying. People were screaming for their lives, and they couldn't get out. Nobody could move a muscle." At least eight people were killed and dozens injured in the ensuing crush that, according to people at the concert, apparently overwhelmed event...

Israeli plan for COVID vaccine tablet gets $4.3m from Bill Gates-backed fund – The Times of Israel

A COVID-fighting coalition heavily funded by Bill Gates has awarded $4.3 million for development of an Israeli variant-proof vaccine in tablet form. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is a founder of the Oslo-based Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations, and last October committed $20 million to it. CEPI now has a $200 million program to advance vaccine development, and has just announced its first funding awards. MigVax, a poultry vaccine that is being adapted for humans in the Galilee, is one of the two recipients. “We were selected as one of just two projects and this is extremely exciting, and a big boost to our hopes of offering a tablet that is a COVID-19 vaccine,” David Zigdon, CEO of MigVax, told The Times of Israel. He added that the $4.3 million...

Sesame Streets Big Bird gets vaccinated as Ted Cruz bristles: Live COVID-19 updates – USA TODAY

"Sesame Street" puppet Big Bird announced his coronavirus vaccination on Twitter – and drew fire from conservatives such as Ted Cruz, who dismissed the vaccine pitch as "government propaganda." The iconic yellow bird appeared Saturday on CNN's town hall “The ABCs of Covid Vaccines" with journalist Erica Hill. His grandmother, Granny Bird, revealed Big Bird would be receiving the vaccine. Big Bird is generally identified as being about 6 years old. Federal health officials recently granted emergency use authorization to Pfizer's coronavirus vaccine for kids ages 5-11. That night, Big Bird tweeted: "I got the COVID-19 vaccine today! My wing is feeling a little sore, but it'll give my body an extra protective boost that keeps me and others healthy. Ms. @EricaRHill even said I’ve been getting...
