Mick Jagger Goes Unnoticed At Charlotte Bar And Its A Gas, Gas, Gas – HuffPost

If there were honky tonk women at the Thirsty Beaver Saloon on Wednesday, they didn’t notice Mick Jagger. Nor did anyone else. The Rolling Stones legend posted a photo of himself nursing a beer at the Charlotte, North Carolina, bar, amid seemingly oblivious patrons. “Out and about last night in Charlotte, NC,” he wrote. Co-owner Brian Wilson confirmed that customers couldn’t get no satisfaction in recognizing the 78-year-old rock star. Ditto for the bartender. A few people in the photo even had floor tickets to the Stones’ concert the next night at Charlotte’s Bank of America stadium, WSOC-TV reporter Joe Bruno reported. No wonder Jagger chose this spot. It gets raves on Yelp. “Can’t call yourself a Charlottean without visiting the Beav!” one reviewer wrote. And dig the neighborhood: Th...

What’s the deal with Seinfeld’s aspect ratio on Netflix? – The Verge

Seinfeld has officially moved over to stream on Netflix today, with a new 4K upgrade that promises to make the show look better than ever. But while Netflix has upgraded the iconic “show about nothing” to even crisper resolution, Netflix is hewing to the same strategy that Hulu and other HD releases of the show have used: a more modern-looking 16:9 aspect, instead of offering the original 4:3 aspect ratio in which the show originally aired. The aspect ratio isn’t a new problem for Seinfeld fans, dating back to the original HD remaster that was produced in 2008 for TBS HD’s syndicated reruns, which were newly made scans of the original film (hence the ability to add back the wider frames that never made it into the initial broadcast) in widescreen to better suit modern televisions. ...

Multiple incidents of rabid raccoons approaching dogs in Raleigh in past month – WRAL.com

Raleigh, N.C. — Two raccoons in Raleigh have recently tested positive for rabies after coming into contact with dogs. Animal control officers have responded to two separate incidents in September. On Sept. 15, a raccoon killed during a fight with a dog on Old Mill Place tested positive for rabies. On Sept. 29, a raccoon described as "acting abnormally" came into contact with a dog on Lions Way. It was secured and also tested positive for rabies. Thankfully, in both incidents, the dog's rabies vaccinations were current. The dogs' owners were provided with counseling concerning appropriate steps that should be taken. Margaret Qualley leads one of the most quietly compelling TV dramas of the year in Netflix’s Maid – The A.V. Club

Margaret Qualley and Rylea Nevaeh Whittet in MaidPhoto: Ricardo Hubbs/Netflix Netflix’s Maid is the kind of TV drama that stays with you for a long time. The gritty limited series—which is based on Stephanie Land’s 2019 best-selling memoir Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, And A Mother’s Will to Survive—presents a persistent, troubling look at the hardships of single mother Alexandra Langley (Margaret Qualley). The 10 episodes are unflinching in their portrayal of her poverty, isolation, and fragile emotional well-being. It is also unabashedly hopeful; the show and its protagonist forge ahead with resilience and poignancy. Anchored by a striking lead performance, Maid might just be one of the most hypnotic dramas of the year. The series begins with Alex leaving her abusive boyfriend Sean (Nic...

South Korean ISP Is Suing Netflix Because Too Many People Are Watching Squid Game – Gizmodo

Photo: Victoria Song/Gizmodo There’s at least one player who’s not particularly happy about the success of the Netflix hit Squid Game—and that’s SK Broadband, a South Korean internet provider. According to Reuters, the ISP is suing Netflix to pay up for using so much bandwidth and the maintenance costs due to traffic surges stemming from the streaming giant. By SK Broadband’s estimates, Netflix owes 27.2 billion won ($22.9 million) in 2020 alone. The ISP handles roughly 1,200 Gigabits of Netflix data processed per second as of September, according to Reuters. That’s up 24 times from May 2018, and popular Netflix Korea productions like Squid Game and D.P. are purportedly a big reason why. Netflix isn’t having it, however. The company has already appealed the ruling. A few days ago, N...

Time to get flu shot is now, doctors urge: Or ‘roll the dice’ – Fox News

The best time to receive a flu shot is now, medical experts told Fox News, after a historic season low last year has left doctors concerned over patients' greater susceptibility to flu-related illness. Prompt uptake of the flu vaccine can also reduce the burden on the medical system and protect at-risk populations from poor outcomes like hospitalization and death. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), everyone 6 months and older should get a flu vaccine every season with rare exceptions. "It’s perfectly reasonable to get vaccinated right now," Dr. Stanley Deresinski, clinical professor of medicine and infectious diseases at Stanford University, told Fox News, noting the recommendation to get a flu shot extends through the end of October. "You could roll the...
