Woman in Coma With COVID Delivers Miracle Baby After Postponing Vaccination – Newsweek

A woman battling COVID-19 in North Carolina delivered what her sister described as a "miracle baby" while in a medically-induced coma earlier this month. The new mother is still "fighting for her life" against double pneumonia in a hospital as relatives care for her newborn baby, the woman's sister, Tarisha Leach, told the Charlotte-based news station WSOC-TV. "That baby is a miracle baby," Leach said during a recent interview with the station. "She's beautiful." Vicky Goodson is employed as the cafeteria manager at Starmount Academy of Excellence, an elementary school within the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools district that says on its website it enrolls fewer than 500 students. Goodson postponed plans to get vaccinated against COVID-19 until after pregnancy, her family members told the st...

J&J vaccine could be linked to another clotting condition: EU | TheHill – The Hill

The European Medicines Agency (EMA), the European Union's drug regulator, on Friday found a possible link between Johnson & Johnson's COVID-19 vaccine and rare cases of blood clotting in deep veins. During a Pharmacovigilance Risk Assessment Committee meeting, the agency said it found a possible link between venous thromboembolism (VTE) and the J&J vaccine.  "VTE is a condition in which a blood clot forms in a deep vein, usually in a leg, arm or groin, and may travel to the lungs causing a blockage of the blood supply, with possible life-threatening consequences," the agency wrote in its meeting highlights. It is recommending that the condition be listed as a rare side effect. The agency also recommends that immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) be listed as a side effect of ...

Their Film Is One of the Weirdest Prizewinners of the Year. Deal With It. – The New York Times

It’s when Alexia’s breasts start leaking motor oil that there’s no mistaking the father of her baby was the tricked-out Cadillac she had rough sex with after the erotic car show, the night she killed a guy by stabbing him in the ear. That’s before she goes on a killing spree, breaks her nose and disguises herself as the missing son of a fire chief on steroids who agrees: she is his child. That is just a glimpse of the harrowing happenings in “Titane,” Julia Ducournau’s audacious splatter-drama that opened Friday. The film is winning prizes and critical acclaim for its comic carnage and upending of gender — and for a raw performance by the newcomer Agathe Rousselle as Alexia, who’s carnally attracted to cars. “Titane” is also generating dropped jaws and screams from filmgoers scandali...

Is the Coronavirus Getting Better at Airborne Transmission? – The New York Times

Newer variants of the coronavirus like Alpha and Delta are highly contagious, infecting far more people than the original virus. Two new studies offer a possible explanation: The virus is evolving to spread more efficiently through air. The realization that the coronavirus is airborne indoors transformed efforts to contain the pandemic last year, igniting fiery debates about masks, social distancing and ventilation in public spaces. Most researchers now agree that the coronavirus is mostly transmitted through large droplets that quickly sink to the floor and through much smaller ones, called aerosols, that can float over longer distances indoors and settle directly into the lungs, where the virus is most harmful. The new studies don’t fundamentally change that view. But the findings sign...

Alyssa Milano slams Jason Aldeans political openness after wife catches heat for anti-Biden shirts – Fox News

A usually vocal Alyssa Milano had no words for country star Jason Aldean after his wife, Brittany Aldean, recently came under fire for sharing photos of herself and their kids sporting anti-Joe Biden shirts. Milano took to Instagram on Thursday and posted a news headline that read: "Country star Jason Aldean used to keep his politics private. Now his toddlers are on Instagram wearing anti-Biden T-shirts." "No comment needed," the "Charmed" actress wrote to her 3 million followers despite the fact she has appeared on Capitol Hill to publicly vouch for policy legislation she rightfully believes in as a result of free speech. She recently voiced her interest in possibly running for Congress in California's 4th District in 2024. ALYSSA MILANO CONSIDERING RUN FOR CONGRESS IN 2024: 'I’M LO...

Harry and Meghans Dog Walker Takes Their Lab, Pula, for a Stroll – TMZ

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may no longer be in the good graces of the Royal Family, but they still give their dog the royal treatment ... even when they're busy. The couple's dog -- a black Lab rescue named Pula -- got to enjoy a lovely stroll near the beach in Santa Barbara Friday ... courtesy of her professional walker. It's unclear who the heavily tatted, dog-walkin' bro is, but he made sure Harry and Meghan's pup was nice and clean before she hopped back into their Land Rover and headed home to Montecito. While the dog walker's 15 minutes of fame may have just begun, Pula's pretty popular already. She was featur...

California to require eligible students in public, private schools to get COVID vaccine upon FDA approval – KGO-TV

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- California will soon require all students in both public and private schools to get the COVID-19 vaccine once the shot is fully authorized by the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) for different age groups. Gov. Gavin Newsom announced the new emergency order on Friday while visiting a middle school in San Francisco. The COVID-19 vaccine will now join a list of 10 other vaccinations required for children to attend school in the state. The governor said the state will issue the mandate in the next school term following the FDA's approval, the earliest being Jan. 1, 2022 and the latest being July 1, 2022. The government has fully approved the COVID-19 vaccine for those 16 and over but only granted an emergency authorization for anyone 12 to 15. Once federal regulators ...
