US coronavirus death toll surpasses 7,00,000 despite wide availability of vaccines – Times of India

The United States on Friday surpassed 7,00,000 deaths from the coronavirus, a milestone that few experts had anticipated months ago when vaccines became widely available to the American public. An overwhelming majority of Americans who have died in recent months, a period in which the country has offered broad access to shots, were unvaccinated. The United States has had one of the highest recent death rates of any country with an ample supply of vaccines. The new and alarming surge of deaths this summer means that the coronavirus pandemic has become the deadliest in American history, overtaking the toll from the influenza pandemic of 1918 and 1919, which killed about 675,000 people. “This delta wave just rips through the unvaccinated,” said Howard Markel, a medical historian at the...

J&J vaccine could be linked to another clotting condition: EU | TheHill – The Hill

The European Medicines Agency (EMA), the European Union's drug regulator, on Friday found a possible link between Johnson & Johnson's COVID-19 vaccine and rare cases of blood clotting in deep veins. During a Pharmacovigilance Risk Assessment Committee meeting, the agency said it found a possible link between venous thromboembolism (VTE) and the J&J vaccine.  "VTE is a condition in which a blood clot forms in a deep vein, usually in a leg, arm or groin, and may travel to the lungs causing a blockage of the blood supply, with possible life-threatening consequences," the agency wrote in its meeting highlights. It is recommending that the condition be listed as a rare side effect. The agency also recommends that immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) be listed as a side effect of ...

The protesters – who numbered between 1,000 and 2,000, per local media reports – descended on the Auckland Domain on Saturday to demand an end to the lockdowns. A caravan of motorcycles led by Brian Tamaki – a vocal anti-lockdown activist who heads the Auckland-based Pentecostal Destiny Church – was among the first on the scene, captured in videos as the procession made its way to the park. Remaining peaceful for the duration of the event, the demo saw Tamaki deliver a fiery, 40-minute speech denouncing the draconian shutdown orders, which have remained i...
