Overwhelmed by Covid-19 Patients, Alaska’s Doctors Make Life-and-Death Decisions – The Wall Street Journal

Facing a crush of Covid-19 patients and desperate requests to take transfers from the state’s remote communities, medical staff at Alaska’s largest hospital are for the first time being forced to decide who should get treatment and who must wait, even if they might not survive. In recent weeks, a triage team of doctors at Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage have been using a formula to score patients on their potential for dying and consulting with an ethicist on the decisions they make. The patients include those sick with Covid-19 and with other ailments.

3 Zodiac Signs Who Will Have A Rough Week Starting October 4 – 10, 2021 – YourTango

There's a good chance that nobody will be surprised when they here that the main reason that anyone would be having a rough week, this week, is due to the placement of Mercury in Retrograde. This transit really sticks to its guns; it tears apart communication and has a way of offsetting all things technical. Why such a stereotype, all the time, Mercury? "Because that's the way it is, kids." We've also got the New Moon on Wednesday, the 6th, which can work any number of ways, depending on our mindset. If we are in a funk, then we will magnify that funk beneath the dark of the Moon, and if we are feeling hopeful and refreshed, then we will see the light in all of our doings. It's only and always about how we manifest the thoughts we are presently working with, and in this case, for some, i...

Kanye West Files Donda Trademark for Apparent Tech Line – TMZ

Kanye West has always been obsessed with Apple, and his latest possible venture could put Yeezy in direct competition with the tech giant. According to legal docs, obtained by TMZ, Ye's company filed a trademark application on September 21 to slap the name "Donda" on a slew of tech line products. And, by the looks of things ... this line could be one helluva empire. Ye is looking to lock up the rights to slap "Donda" on a bunch of electronics, including tablet computers, audio speakers and surround sound systems. It seems he took a page out of Steve Job's playbook over at Apple ... 'cause Kanye also wants to emboss "Donda...

American, Alaska Airlines and JetBlue add staff vaccine mandates – Axios

American Airlines, JetBlue and Alaska Airlines have joined United Airlines in mandating that employees must be vaccinated against COVID-19, per the Wall Street Journal. Why it matters: The Biden administration has been pressing businesses to require workers to be vaccinated against the virus as vaccination rates flatten across the U.S. The big picture: American Airlines told staff on Friday that it would require all employees based in the U.S. and "certain international crew members" to be vaccinated, per a memo obtained by Reuters. The American memo gave no timeline. But JetBlue Airways and Alaska Airlines said Friday they'd implement a vaccine mandate as early as Dec. 8, AP notes. That's the deadline the White House has given for federal contractors to be inoculated, with limited exce...

COVID-19 live updates: American Airlines to require employee vaccinations – msnNOW

The U.S. COVID-19 death toll surpassed 700,000 Friday night, though the latest surge continues to subside. About 1,500 new deaths are reported each day on average in the U.S. The country's daily case average has dropped to just under 106,000 cases a day, down by about 33% in the last month, according to the Department of Health and Human Services. However, that number is still significantly higher than it was three months ago. There have been over 43 million coronavirus cases in the U.S., which means 1 in approximately every 7 Americans has tested positive, and 1 in every 469 Americans has lost their life to the virus. Some states -- like Alaska and West Virginia -- are experiencing record-breaking surges, while other states -- including Alabama, Georgia, Idaho, Kentucky, Texas -- have an...
