Forsyth County deputies investigating reports of shots fired near Parkland High School – WXII12 Winston-Salem

Parkland High School was under a precautionary lockdown Friday afternoon while the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office investigated reports of shots fired nearby. School was out for the day, but there were some students on campus for after-school activities when shots were fired around 3:50 p.m. The lockdown was lifted just before 5 p.m. Forsyth County Sheriff Bobby F. Kimbrough, Jr. said the shooting did not happen on campus, but shots were fired in the direction of students as they left the school building. A school resource officer rushed kids back into the building for safety, said the sheriff. Deputies found shell casings and are looking for a suspect. Seventy-seven new cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in Humboldt County today, bringing to 8,098 the total number of residents who have tested positive for the virus. Four new hospitalizations were also reported, including a person in their 50s, two in their 60s and one over the age of 80. A person in their 60s has died. After extensive case review, Public Health officials have identified six additional fully vaccinated individuals who have died from the virus. A total of seven residents have died from post-vaccination or “breakthrough” illness out of 84 total deaths attributed to the virus. State officials across the country are sounding the alarm over shortages of monoclonal antibody drugs used for the treatment of COVID-19, with some warning unvaccinated folks not to count on having such treatments available in the instance that they contract the virus in the near future. With demand far outpacing supply for the drugs, namely Regeneron's REVG-COV and Eli Lilley's Bamlanivimab, the Biden administration announced this week that the Department of Health and Human Services would be "transitioned from a direct ordering process to a state/territory-coordinated distribution system" for the treatments.
