PHOTOS: New 50th Anniversary Scavenger Hunt Available at Walt Disney World Resort Hotels – wdwnt.com

A new scavenger hunt commemorating the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World is now available at select resort hotels. We picked up this scavenger hunt sheet at Buena Vista Gifts in Disney’s Contemporary Resort. The front side has a story about the opening of Walt Disney World and the different ticket types the parks once used. The back has the actual hunt, which takes guests around Disney’s Contemporary Resort looking for clues. Each clue corresponds to a Magic Kingdom attraction that was open on October 1, 1971. Signs for the attractions are scattered throughout the resort, each with a corresponding ticket type letter. Guests can then use the letter clues to complete the phrase at the bottom of the sheet (we have a feeling we already know what it spells out). Thi...

‘We want people to freak out’: inside Hollywood’s Museum of Motion Pictures – The Guardian

Museums Boasting the shark from Jaws, the robe from the Big Lebowski, and the slippers from Oz, the Academy museum is finally open. But the real story is its exposé of Hollywood’s racist, sexist past In 1939, the Academy of Motion Pictures published its first “players directory”, which grouped actors into categories such as “leading women” and “comediennes”, but set aside separate sections for “coloured” and “oriental” performers. The Academy removed the segregated categories a few years later, but many of the actors of colour weren’t integrated into other sections. They were eliminated. These racist directories are on display at the new Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles, which celebrates some of the most important film-makers in history while also attempting to confront he...

Alabama now reporting more than 100 COVID deaths per day – AL.com

For the first time since the winter virus surge, Alabama is now reporting more than 100 COVID-19 deaths per day. Data from the Alabama Department of Public Health shows the state’s 7-day average for newly reported deaths reached 106 on Tuesday, the highest mark since Feb. 8. The all-time high was 154 deaths reported per day on Jan. 29. [Can’t see the chart? Click here.] There is an average of around two weeks between when a death occurs and when it is reported to ADPH, meaning the deaths reported over the last seven days happened earlier. This has been the case throughout the pandemic, as deaths have been a lagging indicator from the beginning. The state’s death numbers over the last week were boosted by multiple large single-day increases. The state reported nearly 200 new death...

Pepperoni Crumbs > Bacon Bits

Pepperoni gets the most guff of the cured meat family—always the Lunchables, never the crowning glory of the charcuterie plate. But these compact rounds of salumi have so much more to offer for the savvy home cook. They’re peppery, salty, and full of fat that can be rendered to turn them into crisp miniature UFOs. “It’s a quintessential Italian American ingredient—pepperoni is one of those things that people in the United States always associate with Italian food, but it’s rarely seen in Italy,” says Angie Rito, the co-owner of Manhattan’s Don Angie and the coauthor, with Scott Tacinelli and Jamie Feldmar, of Italian American. “The flavor profile of pepperoni is spicy and garlicky with a hint of smoke, and the ingredient has a familiar and nosta...

(Brendan Smialowski/AFP/Getty Images) President Biden told world leaders that his country is focused squarely on the future, noting that ending the war in Afghanistan was a step in moving in that direction. "These are the challenges that we will determine what the world looks like for our children and grandchildren and what they'll inherit. We can only meet them by looking to the future. I stand here today for the first time in 20 years with the United States not at war. We've turned the page," Biden said.  "All the unmatched strength, energy and commitment, will and resources of our nation are now fully and squarely focused on what's ahead of us, not what was behind," he continued. Biden said the US is looking to lead on the global stage, but with the help of its allies and partners...
