The Problem With Jon Stewart’s new talk show might be his own tremendous shadow – The A.V. Club

Jon StewartPhoto: Apple TV+ If you were to ask any major talk show host during the mid-1990s who their single biggest influence was, they would likely say one name: Johnny Carson. A decade later, it was probably David Letterman. However, today that name is very likely Jon Stewart, whose 16-year run on Comedy Central’s The Daily Show took the superficial format of Saturday Night Live’s “Weekend Update” and elevated it beyond simple fake news and pop culture references. Four nights a week, Stewart delivered incisive satirical commentary about the very real political issues impacting the world. Four former Daily Show correspondents now host their own talk shows that each bear Stewart’s mark in some way: Stephen Colbert (The Late Show), John Oliver (Last Week Tonight), Samantha Bee (Full...

One such star was Denzel Washington, who directed a season 12 episode called "The Sound of Silence." On the debut episode of her new podcast called "Tell Her," Pompeo recalled executive producer Debbie Allen roping Washington, now 66, to direct an episode as a "surprise" for Pompeo to keep her interested after starring in the show for over a decade. Liberal journalists celebrate YouTube censorship of anti-vaccine content – Fox News

Liberal journalists and members of the media celebrated YouTube taking action in censoring anti-vaccine content.  YouTube announced on Wednesday the platform was cracking down on what it deems "misinformation" involving the coronavirus vaccine, which will also apply to vaccines for other illnesses.  "Working closely with health authorities, we looked to balance our commitment to an open platform with the need to remove egregious harmful content," YouTube said in a statement posted to its blog. "We’ve steadily seen false claims about the coronavirus vaccines spill over into misinformation about vaccines in general, and we're now at a point where it's more important than ever to expand the work we started with COVID-19 to other vaccines." Facebook Downplays Internal Research Released on Eve of Hearing – The New York Times

Facebook on Wednesday published two internal research reports about its photo-sharing app, Instagram, and downplayed their conclusions, as the company prepared for two congressional hearings in the next week that are focused on its products’ effects on children’s mental health. The reports — “Teen Mental Health Deep Dive,” published internally in October 2019, and “Hard Life Moments,” published in November 2019 — were accompanied by annotations from Facebook that sought to contextualize the limitations of the research and chastised its own researchers for using imprecise language. In one slide, with a title that said “one in five teens say that Instagram makes them feel worse about themselves, with UK girls the most negative,” Facebook wrote in its annotation that the research had not be...
