Another 714 COVID-19 cases but no additional deaths reported in Maine – Press Herald

State officials reported 714 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday as the delta variant continues to spread across Maine, particularly in some rural areas of the state. While the latest surge of COVID-19 appears to be easing in some areas of the country, Maine is still experiencing some of the state’s highest case numbers for the pandemic as well as record-high hospitalizations. The seven-day average of new cases remained relatively flat at 467 as of Friday, up slightly from an average of 456 two weeks ago but exponentially higher than the few dozen cases being reported daily in June and early July. There were no additional deaths reported on Friday. Maine’s virus prevalence is slightly below the national average, at 35 cases per 100,000 residents on an average day, compared to 38 na...

Short-Staffed Michigan Hospitals Cut Workers, Beds Amid Patient Surge – The Epoch Times

Staff shortages have forced two large Michigan hospital systems to cut hundreds of beds. The action comes as a fourth wave of the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus, the pathogen that causes COVID-19, has caused hospitals to be swamped with patients. The Detroit-based Henry Ford Health Systems announced on Sept. 13 that it was cutting 120 beds from five of its eight hospitals due to a lack of nurses and other staff members to service them. Two days later, Beaumont Health Systems announced that it was temporarily closing 180 beds for lack of staffing. Henry Ford Health and Beaumont Health, along with most of Michigan’s hospital chains, implemented requirements earlier this year for all of their employees to be vaccinated against the CCP virus. Those who refuse to do so face...

Did CoolSculptings stick of butter effect disfigure Linda Evangelista? – New York Post

A leading plastic surgeon has warned that CoolSculpting — the popular fat-busting technique that veteran supermodel Linda Evangelista claims left her “brutally disfigured” — is not the miracle solution promoted by gushing American stars. Dr. Alex Sobel, a specialist in correcting botched cosmetic procedures, told The Post that the method can cause “unexpected side effects” and comes with “under-reported” risks. His expert opinions contrast with the rave reviews of celebrity slimmers such as music diva Mariah Carey, reality TV personalities Khloé Kardashian and Kris Jenner, and model-actress Molly Sims, who became a spokesperson for the brand in 2015. Zeltiq Aesthetics, the California company behind CoolSculpting, markets its cash cow as the fastest and most ef...

This Is the New No. 1 Cause of Food Poisoning, CDC Study Says – Best Life

It's common knowledge that handling or preparing certain foods the wrong way can get you pretty sick if you eat them. Typically, this involves washing fruit and veggies before cooking them, storing items at the appropriate temperature, and being sure to clean surfaces and your hands when they've been in contact with raw ingredients. But now, a new study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has uncovered that there may be some new surprising items in your kitchen that could lead to food poisoning. The comprehensive research, released in the CDC's Emerging Infectious Diseases journal on Sept. 8, examined data from the Foodborne Disease Outbreak Surveillance System (FDOSS) that is used to collect reports of foodborne disease outbreaks from federal...
