<!-- --> NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea sent a video message to his officers urging them to get the Covid-19 vaccine after eight unvaccinated members of the department were hospitalized, and a significant percentage had yet to get the shot. “The commissioner said all were perfectly healthy and are now fighting for their lives and he’s now delivering a desperate plea to all serving on the NYPD to get vaccinated,” reported CNN Newsroom host Pamela Brown, noting that one of the hospitalized officers was just 23 years old. Alison Kosik told Brown that there “seems to be a lot of vaccine hesitancy” among the department’s officers, and that Shea’s two minute video was sent as an internal mess...

Australias Victoria state records second-highest daily rise in virus cases – CNN

The daily increase was still the state's second-highest, after the 847 cases logged on Saturday, as officials battle to contain a Delta variant outbreak that has taken root since midyear. Australia's two most populous states, Victoria and New South Wales, have been struggling to contain the highly infectious variant while they ramp up vaccinations to 80% of the population, a threshold that will allow officials to ease strict lockdown measures. Three-quarters of Australians have had a first dose of vaccine, while just half have had both doses. Prime Minister Scott Morrison said in an interview aired on Sunday that he expects states to open up borders and ease restrictions once the 80% vaccination threshold has been met. "We each have a personal responsibility for looking after our own heal...

Global Citizen Live 2021: Jennifer Lopez brings the world to her block – New York Post

The last time a mega-concert took place in a post-pandemic NYC on the Great Lawn of Central Park, Mother Nature — in the guise of Hurricane Henri — stormed on the parade of music stars. The downpour forced the event to be canceled midway through before the likes of Bruce Springsteen and Paul Simon could even perform. A month later, on a sun-drenched Saturday, there was no such drama for Global Citizen Live NYC‚ which was just one of a 24-hour festival across six continents — from London and Paris to Rio De Janeiro and Lagos, Nigeria — raising voices for the hunger crisis, climate needs of developing countries and COVID-19 vaccination distribution. And in a surprise appearance, Simon — who was supposed to close the Homecoming Concert on Aug. 21 — provided the finale that ...

While others will be enjoying the Libra Sun and Gemini Moon, for three zodiac signs who will have a rough day on September 26, 2021, it will likely bring frustration as even if there are decisions and choices that you feel ready to make-you won’t feel free to do so. With the Sun in Libra, we are more able to compromise and find a balanced and fair outcome for any decisions or choices that we may be making in our lives. The Gemini Moon will only encourage us to think things through and come up with untraditional solutions or ideas making the space to actively create the life that we dream of. Black L.A. residents have highest COVID hospitalization rate: A deplorable reality – Yahoo News

Gary Rucker gets a shot at a COVID-19 vaccination clinic at San Julian Park in downtown Los Angeles. (Jason Armond / Los Angeles Times)Black residents have the highest rate of COVID-19 hospitalizations among all racial and ethnic groups in Los Angeles County, new data show, a troubling disparity even as hospitalization rates for all groups have stabilized or started to decline. The pandemic has amplified longtime inequities in the U.S. healthcare system that indicate who is most likely to die from the virus. Black residents in particular are more likely to have underlying medical conditions — such as diabetes and asthma — that place them at higher risk for COVID-19 complications. Public health officials nationwide have tried not to blame people of color for underlying conditions by highl...
