A 47-year-old woman has died of COVID-19, Washington, D.C., health officials said Tuesday. The woman is the 1,160th D.C. resident to die from the coronavirus, according to D.C.'s health department. D.C. did not release any further details about the woman. On Aug. 25, three D.C. residents died, including an 82-year-old woman, a 63-year-old man and a 53-year-old man. An additional 178 people tested positive for the virus on Monday, bringing the total number of D.C. COVID-19 cases to more than 55,000, the city said. Seattle Children’s announces first patient death from COVID-19 – KIRO Seattle

SEATTLE — Seattle Children’s Hospital confirmed Tuesday its first patient death from COVID-19. Dr. John McGuire who works in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Seattle Children’s said in a statement to KIRO 7 the death occurred last week. “This hits all of us close to home, and the patient and family are in the thoughts and hearts of the Seattle Children’s community,” McGuire said. The hospital did not share details on the age of the child for privacy reasons. Earlier this month, McGuire said they are treating more children with severe cases of COVID-19. He’s seen the uptick. “The people we are seeing in the hospital are typically people who are unvaccinated, either teens who are not vaccinated or younger people who are not eligible to be vaccinated,” said McGuire. “We are clearly in a...

Britney Spears lawyer demands Jamie remove himself as conservator immediately: Trying to hold her hostage – Fox News

Britney Spears says her father, Jamie P. Spears, is attempting to extort her as he prepares to exit the conservatorship he’s helmed for 13 years, according to her attorney.  Court documents obtained by Fox News on Tuesday claim Jamie has already accepted the fact his time as pseudo-CEO of Spears’ life is coming to an end – and thus, he should simply bow out right now instead of dragging out the inevitable. "Mr. Spears was forced to concede in his August 12, 2021 ‘First Response’ to Britney Spears’s Petition to remove him that he must depart -- and his departure is now inexorable," Spears’ attorney, former federal prosecutor Mathew Rosengart, told Fox News in a statement on Tuesday. "As we wrote in our new filing with the Court, however, the quid pro quo preconditions that Mr. Spears’s...

Only Murders in the Building Recap: Episode 1 Premiere on Hulu – TVLine

In Hulu’s true-crime comedy Only Murders in the Building, amateur sleuths Charles (Steve Martin), Oliver (Martin Short) and Mabel (Selena Gomez) are well on their way to solving a murder — assuming they don’t trip over a few skeletons along the way. Wednesday’s premiere is very selective in what it chooses to reveal about this unlikely trio — and each of them is very selective in what they choose to reveal about themselves. Charles, for instance, is a washed-up TV star who spends part of each day making, and subsequently discarding, a perfectly good omelette — but why? And Oliver, a failed musical director, has a pile of debt from which he cannot dig himself out. As for Mabel, all we know is that she is renovating her aunt’s apartment. Oh, and one of her closest friends is the murde...

Biden administration closely monitoring supply of medical grade oxygen to treat Covid-19 patients – CNN

The Biden administration is working with and remains in close contact with oxygen suppliers and home health care agencies, industry trade groups, interagency partners and the private sector to closely monitor the situation and support as needed, a Department of Health and Human Services spokesperson said. Over the weekend, health industry sources told CNN that hospitals across Florida, South Carolina, Texas and Louisiana have experienced oxygen shortages, with some at risk of moving to their reserve supplies or even running out of oxygen imminently. At least one hospital group said it was reaching out to the federal government for help. "As Covid has continued to evolve, we have continued to see Covid care best practices continue to evolve, and that in part has been the use of high-flow...

Tomohiro Ohsumi | Getty Images News | Getty Images SINGAPORE — The world may not be prepared for an impending wave of dementia and the additional cases that Covid-19 could bring, according to a group representing over 100 Alzheimer's and dementia associations globally. The Alzheimer's Disease International is urging the World Health Organization and governments around the world to "urgently fast track research on the potential impact of COVID-19 on increasing dementia rates." It says the pandemic could cause a significant rise in the number of dementia patients in the long term, as some research has shown that Covid infections can increase a person's likelihood...
