Twenty people in the state overall have been sickened by the waterborne bacteria Vibrio vulnificus, a relative of cholera infamously known for sometimes causing a flesh-eating infection. Vibrio bacteria are found abundantly in marine environments and brackish waters. Harmful species of Vibrio, including V. vulnificus, usually make us sick when we eat naturally contaminated and undercooked seafood or drink water contaminated by other infected people’s feces, the latter a common problem in countries with poor sanitation. These infections cause gastroin...

Over-the-counter rapid antigen tests can help slow the spread of COVID-19 — heres how to use them effectively – Yahoo News

The rise of the highly transmissible delta variant around the U.S. has increased demand for rapid antigen COVID-19 tests that can be purchased from a pharmacy without a prescription, used at home, school or work and that give results in 15 minutes. On Sept. 9, 2021, the White House announced several initiatives to improve access to rapid antigen tests: It will use the Defense Production Act to boost the production of tests, require retailers to sell rapid tests at cost, distribute free rapid tests to community health centers and food banks and expand free testing in pharmacies. Rapid antigen testing makes it much easier to get tested for COVID-19, which helps detect infectious cases before they spread. But many people are still unsure of how best to use these tests and whether they are a...

Dear Evan Hansen adaptation is a total misfire, one of the worst movie-musicals ever made, critics say – CNBC

On Broadway, "Dear Evan Hansen" was a smash hit. On the big screen, it's poised to be a flop. The latest Hollywood musical adaptation debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival on Thursday ahead of its Sept. 24 release. While the stage musical was lauded, earning six Tony Awards in 2017, preliminary reactions and reviews of the Universal movie are far less kind. "Stephen Chbosky's cinematic adaptation of 'Dear Evan Hansen' ... is a total misfire," wrote Robert Daniels in his review for RogerEbert.com. "It's an emotionally manipulative, overlong dirge composed of cloying songs, lackluster vocal performances, and even worse writing." "Dear Evan Hansen" is about a high school student named Evan Hansen, played by Ben Platt, who suffers from mental health issues. His therapi...

A second person in the state is also in critical condition following use of the drug, which is an antiparasitic medication mainly used in veterinary medicine to deworm animals, such as cattle and horses. If the death is confirmed to have been caused by ivermectin, it is believed to be New Mexico's first known fatal ivermectin overdose. The dewormer has recently seen a sharp rise in use—and poisonings from it—due to false claims that it can treat and prevent COVID-19. ‘Shang-Chi’ China Release Unlikely In Wake Of Unearthed Comments By Star Simu Liu; ‘The Eternals’ Hopes In Question – Deadline

The prospects for Disney/Marvel’s Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings getting a China release date are dwindling. This in the wake of comments originally made by star Simu Liu in 2017 which resurfaced this week and have made waves on Chinese social media. In a 2017 interview with the CBC, the Canadian-born actor referenced his parents telling him of conditions under Communist rule and referring to China as a “third world” country where people were “dying of starvation.” While it was already iffy that Shang-Chi would get a Middle Kingdom date — the market has been stingy of late — its fate may now be sealed. The Chinese government, and the propaganda department which oversees film, have shown themselves to be mercurial to say the least — recall that years-old comments made b...
