NY Releases Data On COVID Breakthrough Infections, Unvaccinated Make Up 21 Times More Hospitalizations – Gothamist

Vaccinated New Yorkers make up just 4% of COVID-19 infections so far this year, according to data provided by the New York State Department of Health. Unvaccinated people were 21 times as likely to be infected or hospitalized statewide. The trends offer another strong indication that the vaccines saved tens of thousands of people this year from severe disease. Of the nearly 1.3 million COVID infections recorded in New York between January 1st and September 5th, just 58,030 involved breakthrough infections, where the virus thwarts a person’s vaccine-backed immunity. The state health department recorded 4,585 hospitalizations among fully vaccinated people, while unvaccinated residents accounted for 97,244 emergency visits. This breakdown would mean, so far this year, the shots reduced the c...

Prince Andrew served court papers in sex-assault lawsuit after attempts to avoid them – New York Post

Prince Andrew has finally been served court papers over his sex accuser’s lawsuit — after his police guards and security were initially ordered not to accept them, according to court papers filed Friday. Cesar Sepulveda filed an affidavit in the Manhattan federal lawsuit brought by Virginia Roberts Giuffre confirming that he had served the papers to Andrew at his Royal Lodge home at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 27. He detailed how he had been repeatedly rebuffed in previous attempts to hand over the documents in which Queen Elizabeth II’s 61-year-old son is accused of first-degree rape tied to late pedophile Jeffrey Epstein’s sex ring. The Last Duel review – Affleck, Damon and Driver deliver damp mullets in the fog – The Guardian

Venice film festival 2021 An all-star cast and some showstoppingly horrible hair can’t save Ridley Scott’s medieval epic Fri 10 Sep 2021 15.30 EDT Duelling got Ridley Scott into cinema back in 1977 with his much-admired debut The Duellists, but that was a brisk affair of rapiers at dawn.
