La Brea Series Premiere Recap: Sci-Fi Sinkhole Drama on NBC – TVLine

RELATED STORIES NBC this Tuesday night invited you to a land down under — meaning, far beneath Los Angeles — with La Brea. Did the sinkhole drama suck you in? La Brea stars Natalie Zea (Justified) as Eve Harris, an office manager and mom who was motoring past the La Brea Tar Pits & Museum with daughter Izzy (played by Zyra Gorecki) and son Josh (Jack Martin) when a massive sinkhole began forming at an intersection, first gulping down a startled traffic cop and then spreading to rip the Earth from beneath many buildings and cars. After first driving away backwards down a sidewalk (!), Eve and the kids got out and made a run for it, but when Josh got knocked down by the stampede, Eve doubled back . As such, the both of them fell into the sinkhole, despite Izzy’s best efforts ...

Illinois man dies of rabies after apparent bat bite – Associated Press

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — A northern Illinois man has died of rabies after apparently being bitten by a bat — the first human case of rabies in the state since 1954, health officials reported Tuesday. The diagnosis has been confirmed by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Illinois Department of Public Health said in a release. The man’s name was not released. Officials said he was in his 80s and lived in Lake County. He woke up in mid-August and found a bat on his neck. The bat was captured and later tested positive for rabies. The man declined to begin post-exposure rabies treatment, health officials said. The rabies virus attacks the central nervous system and causes disease and brain death. The man began experiencing neck pain, a headache, difficulty controlling ...

Vaccine racial disparity gap narrows; 400K Americans got booster shots last weekend: COVID-19 updates – USA TODAY

The gap in racial disparities in COVID-19 vaccination rates is closing, according to new survey data released Tuesday. A Kaiser Family Foundation survey found 73% of Hispanic adults, 71% of white adults and 70% of Black adults in the U.S. had already received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. The numbers were "very, very encouraging to see," Dr. Marcella Nunez-Smith, who is leading the White House's effort on health equity, said during a news conference. Earlier in the nation's vaccination efforts, data showed a much wider gap among vaccination rates between different racial and ethnic groups, driven by barriers to access and misconceptions, Nunez-Smith said. The new data is "the result of intentional work to address those barriers, to address those concerns," she said. The survey ...

‘Law & Order’ Revived for Season 21 at NBC – Hollywood Reporter

It’s official: Dick Wolf’s original Law & Order series is returning to NBC. The network has handed out a straight-to-series order for a revival of the procedural that launched Wolf’s multibillion-dollar franchise. Rick Eid, one of Wolf’s frequent collaborators, will serve as showrunner on what is being billed as the drama’s 21st season. “There are very few things in life that are literally dreams come true,” said Wolf, who remains credited as L&O’s creator and executive producer. “This is mine.” An episode count has not yet been determined and it’s unclear if the new L&O will make it to air during the recently started 2021-22 broadcast season or if it will instead be earmarked for 2022-23. Sources tell THR that some former L&O castmembers are e...
