Coronavirus in Oregon: 2242 new cases, 11 deaths as summer surge eases slightly – OregonLive
The Oregon Health Authority on Thursday announced 11 COVID-19 deaths and 2,242 new coronavirus cases, as well as a continued decline in hospitalizations and intensive care patients since the pandemic peaks seen in early September.
“Daily cases and hospitalizations are slowly coming down from the record highs we’ve seen over the last several weeks,” Dr. Dean Sidelinger, state epidemiologist, said at a news conference Thursday. “It’s an indication that Oregonians are once again stepping up to fend off this virus.”
In the week ended Sept. 12, the state saw an 11% decline in newly reported cases, a 42% decline in new hospitalizations after six consecutive weeks of increases, and a 32% decline in the numbers of coronavirus deaths.
