Nirvana baby sues band alleging child pornography – The Verge

The iconic nude baby photographed for the cover of Nirvana’s Nevermind album is all grown up and suing the band, alleging the image violates child pornography laws. Spencer Elden, now 30, is seeking $150,000 from each of 17 named defendants, including record executives, Nirvana band members, and Courtney Love, the former wife and executor of Kurt Cobain’s estate, according to Variety. The lawsuit, a copy of which was obtained by Variety, claims that the defendants knowingly exploited young Elden to increase attention and boost sales. “Defendants intentionally commercially marketed Spencer’s child pornography and leveraged the shocking nature of his image to promote themselves and their music at his expense,” reads the lawsuit. “Defendants used child pornography depicting Spencer ...

Experts renew warnings of twindemic as US enters flu season amid rising COVID-19 cases: We face the same threat this year – USA TODAY

Last year's influenza season turned out to be the mildest on record, but health experts have renewed warnings that a ‘twindemic’ – in which flu and COVID-19 cases simultaneously rise and overwhelm hospitals – may be possible this year, and they urge Americans to get their flu shot. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported 1,675 cases of influenza from Sept. 28 to May 22, representing only .2% of specimens tested. But it’s difficult to predict what this year will look like, health experts say. They worry it may resemble a more typical flu season, as students get back to in-person learning and states loosen mask and social distancing mandates amid a return to social gatherings. That is especially concerning as COVID-19 cases driven by the highly contagious delta variant rise ...

Jeopardy! Never Considered LeVar Burton for Full-Time Host – TMZ

LeVar Burton might still be the fan favorite to take over as the permanent host of "Jeopardy!" following Mike Richards' exit, but he's never been seriously considered for the role ... TMZ has learned. Production sources tell us ... Sony Studios execs loved the "Reading Rainbow" star as a guest host, but they didn't think he was the right fit for the daily syndicated quiz show ... and the same can be said about almost all the other guest hosts. As we first told you ... "Jeopardy!" honchos wanted Mayim Bialik to replace Alex Trebek as the sole host, but her busy schedule wouldn't allow it, so EP Richards got the daily gig. Of course, now they...

I was wrong: NKY first responder asks people to consider vaccine after severe COVID-19 diagnosis – WLWT Cincinnati

A Northern Kentucky first responder is saying his previous opinions were wrong after contracting a severe case of COVID-19.Covington Fire Lt. Jimmy Adams said he chose not to get the vaccine, largely due to his political views and beliefs. About two weeks ago, he received his COVID-19 diagnosis. Adams said he assumed he'd be OK considering he exercises regularly and doesn't have underlying health conditions. Before long, though, he was taken to St. Elizabeth's hospital by ambulance. "And here I am, a 50-year-old man, in reasonably decent shape, and it knocked me for a loop far greater than I ever thought," Adams said. "My CT scan proved I had bilateral pneumonia in both lungs, and I was going to be admitted at this hospital."The painful experience prompted him to write a series of...

Nurse urges pregnant women to vaccinate after losing child due to COVID complications – Yahoo Entertainment

Vanessa Alfermann, a Missouri nurse who contracted COVID-19 last fall while pregnant and ultimately lost her baby boy, Axel, at 22 weeks, appeared on Anderson Cooper 360 Tuesday to urge pregnant women, and others, to get vaccinated. Alfermann got sick soon after her husband tested positive, and everything was fine for the first couple of days before taking a turn for the worse. “I started getting weird back pains and front pains,” Alfermann said. “So I went to the local OB, and, you know, they sent me home, said it was a side effect of COVID. They didn't check me or anything. Then that night they sent me home because at that point I was stable.” Alfermann said she started getting some bleeding that night, and began feeling more pain. But it wasn’t until the next morning when she woke up a...

NXT recap & reactions (Aug. 24, 2021) : At odds until we’re even – Cageside Seats

Culture Clash with The Culture You all know I love Hit Row probably as much or more than Kyle loves The Blade. They are my wrestling Wu-Tang Clan, and I truly believe they ain’t nothing to F’ with. But there are moments when this beef with Legado Del Fantasma feels like it might go off the rails. The feud plays around with race and ethnic traditions to reinforce the differences between the two factions. We’re not in cringeworthy territory yet, and I hope we never get there, but I have to acknowledge the giraffe in the room before even digging into the wrestling. Cool? Cool. Remember a couple weeks ago when I juxtaposed Hit Row’s unity with Legado Del Fantasma’s lack of unity? Yeah that’s not a thing anymore. Santos Escobar’s group worked like a Swiss watch in this match, di...
