Unvaccinated California Teacher Caused COVID Outbreak That Infected Half Her Class – HuffPost

A single unvaccinated teacher at a Northern California school triggered a COVID-19 outbreak in May that infected 26 others, including a total of 18 students, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported Friday. News of the startling, rapid spread in the school and to students’ families emerged as administrators grapple with vaccine and mask regulations for another school year in the face of Republican governors blocking mask mandates. At least 90,000 students across the nation have already been quarantined at the start of this school year after contracting COVID-19 or being potentially exposed to the coronavirus. Children accounted for more than 1 in 5 new cases last week, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics. Nearby, medical teams were watching over an intubated toddler. The patient eventually needed a rare treatment known as high-frequency oscillatory ventilation, which involves gentle vibrations that move air around in the lungs. His path to intubation had been swift. His sister, 15 months old, came down with what seemed to be a mild cold. Before long, Junior’s day care reported that he was gagging when drinking from a ...

"You cannot tell me that is not Mr. Dwayne."  It started after a Walmart employee told another officer he "wanted to meet [the] Deputy that people say looks like ‘The Rock,’" according to the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.  Lt. Eric Fields, the lookalike, was happy to oblige and snapped a picture, generating the social media stir.  "It’s always been a running joke of people saying I resemble the Rock or… Vin Diesel," Fields shared in an interview with Fox affiliate WBRC, "and I just go with it." His wife got a kick out of the flattering comparison, too: "She loves it," Fields said with a relaxed ...

Unvaccinated make up nearly 90% of Sacramento County COVID-19 hospitalizations, health official says – KCRA Sacramento

People who have not been vaccinated against COVID-19 make up the overwhelming share of those being hospitalized with the disease in Sacramento County, the county’s public health officer said. Dr. Olivia Kasirye told KCRA 3 on Friday that between 80% to 90% of patients hospitalized for COVID-19 have not been vaccinated against the disease. “Please get vaccinated. The Pfizer vaccine has full approval now,” she said. “We still have pop-up clinics in all places throughout the county. That is our best protection against the COVID virus.” The California Department of Public Health said in a statement that the state is hopeful the rate of COVID-19 cases is plateauing in some regions, something Kasirye said this week seems to be the case in Sacramento County.
