Deltas peak is difficult to project, but could come this month | TheHill – The Hill

The COVID-19 delta variant surging through the United States could peak later this month, but experts say projections are difficult and much will depend on an unpredictable factor: human behavior. The U.S. is expected to endure a rough next few weeks no matter what. The seven-day average for COVID-19 has risen in recent weeks to 85,866 cases per day as of Monday, the highest point since Valentine’s Day, according to data from The New York Times. The boost in cases per day is higher than last summer’s peak of almost 67,000 cases but much lower than the winter highpoint of nearly 260,000. A lot of what happens in the next few weeks will depend on the population, which Nicholas Reich, an associate professor of biostatistics at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, noted is “r...

John Corbett says he and Bo Derek are finally married after 20 years together – CNN

"Around Christmas time we got married. Bo and I got married," Corbett told Jerry O'Connell, host of CBS' "The Talk," on Tuesday. "I noticed your ring, and I was going to say something, but not on live television, but wow. Congratulations," O'Connell responded. Corbett, 60, said the interview was the first time either he or fellow actor Derek, 64, had mentioned their marriage in public. "We're pretty private people, we didn't make an announcement," he said. The pair have been in a relationship for two decades but decided to marry in the pandemic year. "After 20 years, we decided to get married. We didn't want 2020 to be that thing that everybody looks back at and hated," said Corbett. "We thought let's get one nice thing out of it." Corbett is best known for his role as Ai...

All 4 Hawaii mayors are considering vaccine mandates for county workers – Hawaii News Now

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - As the number of new COVID cases soars to record levels and hospital bed space dwindles, every Hawaii mayor is now looking at making vaccines mandatory for county workers in a bid to drive down infections and prevent the virus from mutating into something worse. Potential policy changes would apply to nearly 13,000 workers statewide. The talks come as mandatory vaccinations for government workers is catching on across the country. In addition to ensuring first responders and service workers are better protected, officials say vaccine requirements are an efficient way to get a larger percentage of the population vaccinated. “No one is supportive of a lockdown. Shutting down the economy again. Restricting travel,” said Healthcare Association of Hawaii CEO Hilton ...

Covid Shots Targeting Delta May Be Needed, Researchers Say – NDTV

<!-- --> Despite the losses, current vaccines continue to give a relatively high degree of protection. Vaccines targeting the highly transmissible delta variant may now be needed, given its ability to infect people with fading immunity and potentially increased severity, researchers leading a large English study of Covid shots said. A third wave of English cases has been driven by the delta strain among both unvaccinated people -- especially those aged 12 to 24 -- as well as some people who had received Covid shots, according to authors of a study of samples from about 98,000 people in England. The effectiveness of vaccines at stopping infection during the study period fell to 49%, the researchers estimated, down from 64% in a month earlier. Vaccines' protection against developm...

Watch Guns N Roses Debut New Song Absurd – Ultimate Classic Rock

Guns N' Roses debuted what Axl Rose described as "a new Guns N' Roses song" tonight in Boston. "Some of you might have heard this under another name,” the iconic frontman noted. “But this is really kind of absurd for us to try this,” Rose then joked, earning a rimshot from drummer Frank Ferrer. “Wasn’t that funny? And they don’t even know the joke yet. Ok, this is called ‘Absurd.’” From there, Guns N’ Roses launched into what (arguably) sounds like one of the hardest tracks in their arsenal. Blistering drums and a frantic, punk rock pace propeled the song, as Rose unleashed his aggressive vocals in a Rage Against the Machine-style delivery. “Listen motherfuckers to this song that should be heard / Dragged down in the gutters, it's more than you deserve / Screaming fucking banshee, you kn...

In the fourth episode of the Paramount+ show’s fifth season, a comedy television executive (Wayne Brady) asks Liz (Audra McDonald) to put together a sensitivity read for one of his comedians. The scene continues on with characters Marissa (Sarah Steele), Jay (Nyambi Nyambi) and Jim (Ifadansi Rashad), as the group contemplates the effects of cancel culture on comedy. Jay asks what topics are off-limits, as the group supplies answers including necrophilia, autism and “Selena Gomez’s kidney transplant.” Following backlash over the episode that included fans tweeting “Respect Selena Gomez,” Gomez took to social media herself to...
