Weekend ‘GMA’ Anchor Dan B. Harris to Leave ABC News – Yahoo Entertainment

Dan B. Harris, an anchor who has served multiple roles at ABC News in the past two decades and co-anchors the weekend broadcast of “Good Morning America,”, is stepping away from the Disney-backed news operation. He expects to leave in two months, he announced to viewers of Sunday’s broadcast. More from Variety ”This was a difficult decision for me,” Harris said, noting the continuing demands of running Ten Percent Happier, an entrepreneurial media venture he has that focuses on meditation. “It’s been a lot to juggle and even though I’m a public proponent of work/life balance, if I’m honest, I’ve struggled to follow my own advice.” Harris in 2019 stepped away from co-anchor duties at ABC News’ “Nightline,” citing similar reasons. ABC News has placed new emphasis on the weekend broadcast o...

Modern Family actress Julie Bowen and her sister rescued a woman who fainted on a hike in Utah – Fox News

"Modern Family" actress Julie Bowen and her sister helped save a woman who fainted on a hiking trail in Utah.  A woman named Minnie John was visiting Arches National Park with her family last week when she had a brief medical episode on the trail only to find herself being helped by the famous actress and her physician sister, Annie.  John explained that she was hiking the trail with her family when she started to feel ill. Rather than make her whole family end their hike, she decided to hang back on a rock while her husband and kids continued. She recalls sitting and starting to feel a bit better as a breeze hit her. Unfortunately, her improvement was short-lived.  She apparently fainted and recalled in a lengthy Facebook post that she remembers waking up to a familiar voice giving h...

The vaccinated are angry. Thats understandable but also unproductive, health experts say. – USA TODAY

Masks are back, some hospitals are filling up again and there's little question who is causing the latest resurgence of COVID-19 in the U.S. Unvaccinated Americans are rapidly becoming sick from the ultra-contagious delta variant. And they're often getting extremely ill: More than 97% of people being hospitalized for COVID-19 in mid-July were unvaccinated, said Dr. Rochelle Walensky, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It's a tragically predictable outcome, leading some politicians and pundits to unload their frustrations on the unvaccinated. "It’s not a pandemic of ignorance," quipped the Santa Monica Daily Press in an editorial about Los Angeles County's spike in cases and hospitalizations. "This is a surge of straight stupidity." High levels of infections in unv...

Explainer-Beyond Delta, scientists are watching new coronavirus variants – Yahoo News

By Julie Steenhuysen CHICAGO (Reuters) - The continued spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus has spawned a Greek alphabet of variants - a naming system used by the World Health Organization to track concerning new mutations of the virus that causes COVID-19. Some have equipped the virus with better ways of infecting humans or evading vaccine protection. Scientists remain focused on Delta, now the dominant variant rising rapidly around the world, but are tracking others to see what may one day take its place. DELTA The Delta variant first detected in India remains the most worrisome. It is striking unvaccinated populations in many countries and has proven capable of infecting a higher proportion of vaccinated people than its predecessors. The WHO classifies Delta as a variant of concern, meaning...

Delta variant, Louisiana doctors, slowly cracking vaccine resistance – Reuters

PONCHATOULA, La., Aug 8 (Reuters) - The crowd inside Floyd's Family Pharmacy was abuzz with an agitated energy. Whether arriving for scheduled COVID vaccines or testing, people were motivated in part by fear of the Delta variant taking hold across the country as well as in this stately town surrounded by lush forests, strawberry fields and swamps an hour north of New Orleans. Head pharmacist Floyd Talley was at the center of the action, one minute donning full protective gear to carry out nasal swabs in the parking lot. The next, he was back in his white jacket, fielding questions from moms about possible COVID symptoms their children displayed. "There is a huge uptick in the request for vaccines," Talley said. "We're back almost to how we were when the vaccine first came out." Those lini...

‘Back to the Future’ star Claudia Wells on how faith helped her cope with tragedy: Its ‘the reason I’m alive’ – Fox News

Claudia Wells skyrocketed to fame after playing the role of Marty McFly’s girlfriend Jennifer Parker in 1985’s "Back to the Future" – but then she seemingly disappeared from Hollywood. The beloved classic, which starred Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd and Lea Thompson, among others, told the tale of a high school student who is sent into the past with a time-traveling DeLorean invented by an eccentric scientist. The film’s success resulted in a trilogy, but Wells reluctantly turned down the offer to reprise her role. Elisabeth Shue went on to replace her in "Back to the Future II" (1989) and "Back to the Future III" (1990). At the time, Wells’ manager mother was dying of breast cancer, People magazine reported. It changed the game. Heres how to guard against the delta variant – Press Herald

As the nation heads into the 17th month of living amid a pandemic, Maine residents should probably be forgiven for feeling a bit … confused, flustered, or downright fed up. Daily counts of new COVID-19 cases are once again in the triple digits, after falling into the teens and even a few single-digit days in June. Things that finally felt almost safe again thanks to Maine’s high vaccination rate – like wandering into a crowded restaurant or catching an indoor concert – now suddenly seem questionable. And to top it off, county-specific recommendations on whether fully vaccinated folks should mask up again before heading into the grocery store or post office can change daily. York County, for instance, flip-flopped between “masks recommended” and “masks not needed” four times over 11 ...

For Seniors Especially, Covid Can Be Stealthy – The New York Times

“We’re not necessarily surprised by this,” said Dr. Maria Carney, a geriatrician and an author of the Northwell study. “Older adults don’t always present like other adults. They may not mount a fever. Their metabolisms are different.” Younger diabetics, for instance, may become sweaty and experience palpitations if their blood sugar falls, Dr. Carney explained. An older person with low blood sugar could faint without warning. Older people who suffer from depression may have appetite loss or insomnia but not necessarily feel sad. Understand the State of Vaccine Mandates in the U.S. In May of 2020, Dr. Carney heard from a daughter worried about her mother, who was in her 80s and had suddenly grown weaker. “She didn’t have fever or a cough, but she was just not herself,” Dr. Carney recalled...
