‘West Side Story’ Will Not Return to Broadway – The New York Times

“West Side Story,” an ambitious, reimagined revival of the classic musical, will not reopen when Broadway returns this fall, the show announced Monday, making it one of the biggest productions yet to become a casualty of the pandemic. The show’s lead producer, Scott Rudin, announced in April that he was stepping back from active roles in his Broadway productions after he came under fire for a long history of bullying employees. But Rudin said at the time that while the decisions about the future of “West Side Story” and his other shows would be left to others, he hoped that they would return to Broadway when theaters were allowed to reopen. The “West Side Story” revival — put together by a creative team with avant-garde credentials, including the director Ivo van Hove and the choreograph...

How to Deal With Your Childhood Trauma As an Adult – Lifehacker

Recovering from trauma is hard no matter when it happens. However, if adversity happens during childhood, it can be especially hard to overcome. Unlike adults, children have very little control over their environment. If a child is living in an abusive home, their ability to remove themselves from that environment is extremely limited, whereas an adult will usually have more emotional and financial resources with which to escape. Meanwhile, children are still learning what healthy relationships look like, as well as how to cope with difficult situations. If a child is growing up in a household where abusive behavior is the norm, this can skew their understanding of what is and is not acceptable within a relationship. Even when the trauma is unavoidable, such as a death in the family or a...

R. Kelly Wants Charges for Exposing Partners to Herpes Dropped from Federal Case – TMZ

R. Kelly is trying to score a win in his federal sex crimes case by citing public health laws in order to get the herpes-related charges tossed. The singer's filed new legal docs in the Eastern District of NY, obtained by TMZ, asking the court to throw out charges for knowingly exposing sexual partners to herpes because ... he says the legislature didn't include herpes in the law because it's "Not An Acute, Bacterial Venereal Disease." You might recall, federal prosecutors accused Kelly of exposing 2 people to an STD in March 2020, and the charges were tacked on to his already long list of federal charges for allegedly se...

Johnny Depp to Receive San Sebastian Film Fest Lifetime Achievement Honor – Hollywood Reporter

In a move certain to spark controversy, and a potential backlash, Spain’s San Sebastian International Film Festival will honor actor Johnny Depp with its Donostia Award, a lifetime achievement honor that recognizes “outstanding contributions to the film world.” Depp, inarguably one of the world’s most successful and well-known actors, is these days often seen as publicly toxic after his failed libel suit against British tabloid The Sun, which ended with the courts upholding the paper’s description of him as a “wife beater” and the ruling judge indicating he believed Depp had assaulted ex-wife Amber Heard on multiple occasions. The ruling led directly to Warner Bros. dumping Depp from its Fantastic Beasts franchise and replacing him with Mads Mikkelsen in the role of evi...

Deadly spider venom found to help treat heart attacks | TheHill – The Hill

Venom from one of the world’s deadliest spiders could lead to a potentially-life saving treatment for victims of heart attacks.  Researchers from the University of Queensland in Australia and Sydney’s Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute are developing a drug candidate derived from a molecule found in the venom of the Fraser Island funnel-web spider.  A protein, Hi1a, could block so-called death signals sent to cells after a cardiac arrest that causes heart cells to die, according to a study published recently in the journal Circulation. Currently, there are no drugs in clinical use that stop the damage caused by heart attacks.  “After a heart attack, blood flow to the heart is reduced, resulting in a lack of oxygen to heart muscle,” Nathan Palpant, professor from the Univer...

Kit Harington talks surviving traumatic addictions, suicidal thoughts – Page Six

Kit Harington is getting candid about his addictions following the end of “Game of Thrones.” The “7 Days in Hell” star, who recently revealed he was “really happy” he checked himself into rehab after the beloved HBO series ended, elaborated on the “pretty traumatic” struggles he’s endured in a new interview. “Things that have happened to me since ‘Thrones’ ended, and that were happening during ‘Thrones,’ were of a pretty traumatic nature, and they did include alcohol,” he told the Sunday Times. “You get to a place where you feel like you are a bad person, you feel like you are a shameful person, and you feel that there’s no way out.
