Musician touring Grand Rapids requires COVID-19 vaccine or negative test – WOODTV.com

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Singer-songwriter Jason Isbell is requiring proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test at all his concerts, including his show scheduled this month at DeVos Performance Hall in Grand Rapids. The four-time Grammy award winner appeared on MSNBC Monday, saying if the venue won’t allow it, he won’t play. “I’m not saying that anybody has to get a vaccine or a negative COVID test, but if you don’t, then you don’t get to come to the show,” Isbell said during the interview with MSNBC host Stephanie Ruhle. News 8 reached out to DeVos Performance Hall about whether they’ll enforce these requirements at Isbell’s upcoming Aug. 26 show but did not receive a response. Isbell said the decision has gotten pushback with some critics calling th...

Fully vaccinated people are still getting infected with Covid. Experts explain why – CNBC

Nurses watch a computer screen in Bogota, Colombia on February 18, 2021. JUAN BARRETO | AFP | Getty Images LONDON — People who are fully vaccinated against Covid-19 are highly protected against severe infection, hospitalization and death caused by the virus. But coronavirus cases among the fully vaccinated — so-called "breakthrough" Covid cases — are still being seen among those who have had two doses. This is happening for a number of reasons, experts note.  For a start, none of the vaccines being deployed in the U.S. or Europe are 100% effective at preventing infection. In addition, new Covid strains such as the highly infectious delta variant — which is now prevalent around the world —have complicated the efficacy picture. There is also incomplete data ...

Kim Kardashian Says She Doesnt See the Resemblance Between Her “Twin” Saint and Kanye West – E! NEWS

Kim Kardashian has an important question for Twitter: Does Saint West look more like her or Kanye West? If you ask Kardashians stan Myleeza Kardash, she'd have to say the 5 year old is a dead ringer for Ye. As Myleeza put it, "Saint looks like a light skin Kanye. Like seriously twins!!!!!" But, according to Kim, she just doesn't see it. "Really? People say this all the time!" she responded. "Why do I think he's my twin????" While most people think Saint is Kanye's mini-me, a handful said that Chicago is Kim's "twin," which Kim said she still doesn't see, even though "everyone says it!" Eventually, Kim agreed to one person's assessment of the family lookalikes. "I think North and Saint are the perfect mix of you and Kanye, Chi is your twin and Psalm is Kanye's," the fan asserted, t...

Marvel and DC allegedly continuing industry tradition of not paying creators – The A.V. Club

Spanish Captain America comicPhoto: PAU BARRENA/AFP via Getty Images From Al Jaffe to Jerry Siegel and Joel Schuster, there’s no shortage of comics artists, creators, and writers getting screwed by publishers. Pretty much as soon as the likes of Marvel and D.C. realized that they could cheat creators out of money, they began doing so. And according to a new report by The Guardian, the big two are still playing the hits, preventing creators like Ed Brubaker and Jim Starlin from reaping the benefits of introducing the world to the likes of The Winter Soldier and Thanos through ridiculous contract agreements and pitiful bonuses. In a recent newsletter, Brubaker, who was already not feeling great about a Winter Soldier TV show, lamented about being so closely related to the world of the ...

Oregon sees 40% jump in weekly coronavirus cases, nears hospitalization record – OregonLive

The number of newly identified coronavirus cases climbed in Oregon for a fifth consecutive week, according to state data released Monday, reaching the highest levels since December. Oregon recorded 8,304 new confirmed or suspected coronavirus infections, up 40% from the previous week. That number includes 1,032 new known cases recorded Friday, 964 Saturday and 1,233 Sunday. The three days of numbers were announced Monday because the state doesn’t report data on weekends. The Oregon Health Authority also reported 575 patients hospitalized Monday with COVID-19. The number is nearing the record of 584 from last November and will likely top it as soon as Tuesday. Meanwhile, a record 148 patients are fighting for their lives in Oregon’s intensive care units Monday, 13 more than the all-ti...

Some childrens hospitals in Covid-19 hotspots are especially busy – CNN

"Clinics were packed," Cadilla said. Her hospital has seen a significant increase in the number of children with Covid-19. They're also managing an earlier than usual surge in other respiratory illnesses. Kids aren't sicker with Covid-19, necessarily, there are just more of them, Cadilla said. "We know how to treat a lot of these things, including Covid," Cadilla said. "But this is a public health crisis because when you overload the system, we can't do a lot of things well." It's frustrating, she said, because while they can provide supportive care for children, treatments like monoclonal antibodies aren't authorized for children under the age of 12, and neither are vaccines. What's even more frustrating to her is that some families of her patients tell her that they won't get vaccinate...
