A plant-based diet is the best way to avoid heart disease, according to a new report – The Washington Post

Nutrition research largely supports a whole food, plant-based diet. Let’s unpack that. “Whole” indicates foods that have not been highly processed. Think vegetables, fruit, whole grains, beans, nuts, fish, eggs, poultry and dairy in their simplest forms. An orange, chicken breast or potato are examples of whole foods, while orange-flavored soda, chicken nuggets and barbecue chips are ultra-processed versions.

Perspective | Booster shots wont stop the delta variant. Heres the math to prove it. – The Washington Post

But the basic reproductive number alone doesn’t tell the whole story. To really understand what we can expect from the delta variant, we need to consider vaccinations, natural immunity and any precautions people are taking to lower their chances of being exposed, such as wearing masks and social distancing. To do that, epidemiologists calculate another measure, called the effective reproduction number, or Re (pronounced arr-eee). The Re helps us estimate how much a disease may spread when a population has at least some immunity. Technically speaking, the Re measures how many new people a single person infects, accounting for whatever precautions people are taking and overall immunity levels. Whether we’re talking about the Re or the R0, any value larger than 1 means trouble, because if eac...

Chet Hanks Doubles Down on Anti-Vaxx Message: “I Have the Right to Not Get That S—” – Hollywood Reporter

Meghan Markle desperately wanted to attend Obamas birthday bash – Daily Mail

Meghan Markle 'desperately wanted' to attend Barack Obama's 60th birthday party but was not included on the guest list, Prince Harry's biographer has claimed. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex did not attend the lavish do thrown by the former US president at his seven-bedroom £8million holiday home in Martha's Vineyard on Saturday. It included John Legend and Chrissy Teigen, Meghan's friend CBS This Morning host Gayle King, George Clooney and Jay-Z and Beyoncé.  And according to royal expert and author Angela Levin, who wrote Harry: Biography of a Prince, it is thought that Barack and Michelle, 57, never included Harry, 36, and Meghan, 40, on the 475 strong guest-list. Angela told The Sun:  'I am told that despite claiming she was unable to attend, Meghan desperately wanted to be the special...

Covid-19 Rise, Vaccine Hesitancy Frustrate Doctors in Hospitals Saturated by the Delta Variant – The Wall Street Journal

Some healthcare workers say the latest surges in Covid-19 are adding to fatigue and burnout. But this time exhaustion is amplified by something new: frustration over the insufficient uptake of vaccines that could have prevented most Covid-19 patients from landing in their care. The Delta variant has pushed up U.S. Covid-19 infections to averages of about 100,000 a day, federal data show, levels last breached before vaccines were available to many Americans. Hospitalizations and deaths have climbed less sharply nationwide, but in some parts of the country where vaccination rates are lower, more people are hospitalized for Covid-19 than ever. “The mood is more frustrated than anything,” said Claire White, an intensive-care-unit nurse at Mercy Hospital Northw...
