Disney CEO discusses talent compensation in the wake of Scarlett Johansson lawsuit – CNBC

Bob Chapek Jeff Gritchen | MediaNews Group | Orange County Register via Getty Images The Walt Disney Company has "figured out ways to fairly compensate" talent regardless of its film release method, CEO Bob Chapek said during an earnings call Thursday. Chapek's comments, which were prompted during analyst Q&A, come just two weeks after Marvel star Scarlett Johansson filed a lawsuit against the company, alleging it breached her contract by releasing "Black Widow" on Disney+. "Since Covid has begun, we've entered hundreds of talent arrangements with our talent and by and large, they've gone very very smoothly, so we expect that that would be the case going forward," he said. Chapek did not directly address the ongoing lawsuit with Johansson, but...

The new Marvel film has long been set to be the studio’s first theatrical-only release since early 2020, but with rising concerns about the delta variant of covid-19, many assumed that decision would change. It will not, meaning Shang-Chi will not be available to stream on Disney+ with Premier Access. To see it, you’ll have to go to the theater, at least for a few weeks. As delta variant surges, vaccine-makers rethink their strategy – Salon

When America shut down in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a pervading sense that the situation was probably — or hopefully — temporary. After all, efforts were already underway to develop a vaccine. It was just a matter of time until normalcy would return. But 17 months later, a return to "normal" is nowhere in sight. Frightening new mutant strains like the delta variant and the lambda variant have emerged, more infectious and possibly more dangerous than their antecedents. Early evidence indicates that, while existing vaccines stop patients from getting severely ill if infected, they do not prevent the infected from transmitting the disease. At the very least, it is theoretically possible that mutant variants could create problems for people who want their inoculations...

Prisma doctors urge vaccinations as health system sees surge in pediatric respiratory illnesses – WYFF4 Greenville

Prisma Health is calling a recent influx of pediatric patients a "surge," and officials are blaming it on a convergence of respiratory illnesses, including COVID-19.Prisma media relations specialist Sandy Dees said there are currently a total of 12 COVID-19 pediatric patients at Prisma Health, systemwide. She said while the overall inpatient pediatric patient count continues to be higher than normal this time of year, the health system has the capability to meet the needs of those patients. Dees said the hospital system has been seeing a rise in pediatric COVID-19 cases since July, along with adult COVID-19 cases. "The larger issue is that we’re also seeing a convergence of COVID, RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) and other respiratory illnesses that has increased the number of patie...
