She was soon in the hospital with COVID pneumonia — a common complication from the virus. She was initially sent home after four days with antibiotics, but in less than 48 hours she returned to the hospital with breathing problems.  Doctors soon performed an emergency C-section to deliver McMullen's baby. FACT FOCUS: Indiana doctors speech spreads COVID falsehoods – Associated Press

An Indiana doctor’s recent appearance at a small community school board meeting northeast of Indianapolis has racked up tens of millions of views across social media this week, with users falsely claiming it included facts about COVID-19 that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the federal government don’t want you to hear. In reality, Dr. Dan Stock’s 6-minute speech to the Mount Vernon Community School Corporation in Fortville, Indiana, on Aug. 6 was loaded with falsehoods about the disease and the vaccines used to fight it. For example: While it’s true that breakthrough cases can occur in a small percentage of vaccinated people, Stock’s overarching claim that vaccines are ineffective against COVID-19 is false. Vaccines remain safe and effective at preventing severe sympt...

Metabolism doesnt slow down in middle age, shocking new study reveals – New York Post

Packing on the poundage? Sorry, suckers: We can’t use middle age as our excuse for that spread anymore! A revelatory new study has determined that metabolism, long thought by most of humankind to decline progressively during adulthood, is actually stabilized between the ages of 20 and 60 — when it actually starts tanking. An international team of killjoy researchers, whose work was published Friday in the journal Science, discovered that metabolism is at its highest in infants — naturally — who burn calories about 50% faster than adults. That rate declines yearly by about 3% until they reach the age of 20 or so, when metabolism plateaus through middle adulthood. At 60, the slump returns at a depressing rate of about 1% more per year until we drop dead. What thi...

‘Fast carbs’ don’t make you fat, study says – Study Finds

WASHINGTON — Although many trendy diets try to limit carbs, not all carbohydrates are the same. Most of the weight gain anxiety dieters get revolves around the belief that eating “fast carbs” will make you fat. However, a new study finds there’s really no difference between fast or slow carbs when it comes to weight gain — or weight loss. In a report commissioned by the Grain Foods Foundation, scientists discovered little difference in how high-glycemic and low-glycemic foods impact weight management. The glycemic index (GI) ranks how quickly a certain food raises blood sugar levels. The theory is that high-GI foods raise glucose levels and insulin secretion, which may lead to health issues through overeating. Moreover, scientists believe high-GI foods promote fat storage and increase...
