Disney Sued In Multi-Million Covid Shut-Down Costs Dispute; Insurance Company Insists Policy Doesn’t Apply – Deadline

There’s nothing that kicks off a summer holiday weekend like a good blockbuster battle and that’s what the courtroom showdown between the Walt Disney Company and Fireman’s Fund Insurance has all the potential to be. Sure, the price tag of the $10 million or so dispute filed today in LA Superior Court isn’t that epic, However, the ramifications for a Hollywood still unsteady on its feet after the production shut-downs and lockdowns of the coronavirus could be immense. Already we’ve seen UTA and others get in pandemic dust-ups with their insurers, and if you think more lawsuits like this aren’t being prepped right now by other insurance companies, I have some questions to ask you about Lee Harvey Oswald and did he act alone that terrible day in Dallas? California Virus Cases Rising as Delta Variant Spreads – NBC Bay Area

California broadly reopened its economy barely two weeks ago and since then an especially contagious coronavirus variant has spread among the unvaccinated, a development that has health officials on edge and already has prompted Los Angeles County to strongly recommend everyone resume wearing masks inside. The nation's most populous state is averaging close to 1,000 additional cases reported daily, an increase of about 17% in the last 14 days. Officials expected an increase when capacity limits were lifted for businesses and most mask restrictions and social distancing requirements were eliminated for vaccinated people. But public health officials raised concern this week with the more transmissible delta variant spreading among the unvaccinated, who comprise the v...

Johnson & Johnson Vaccine Protects Against Delta Variant, Company Reports – The New York Times

The Johnson & Johnson coronavirus vaccine is effective against the highly contagious Delta variant, even eight months after inoculation, the company reported on Thursday — a finding that should reassure the 11 million Americans who have gotten the shot. The vaccine showed a small drop in potency against the variant, compared with its effectiveness against the original virus, the company said. But the vaccine was more effective against the Delta variant than the Beta variant, first identified in South Africa — the pattern also seen with mRNA vaccines. Antibodies stimulated by the vaccine grow in strength over time, researchers also reported. The results were described in a news release, and the company said that both studies had been submitted for online publication on Thursday. One o...

Coordination of Humboldt County’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic formally transferred from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Services (OES) to the Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS) effective today. While the two agencies have been working in tandem for the last 16 months, the COVID-19 Emergency Operations Center has been deactivated, and response efforts have been reorganized under the DHHS Departmental Operations Center (DOC), which will be led by Public Health.
